While most of his performances in his films are said to be some of the best the world has ever seen, there are some iconic roles of his that stand out from the rest even more, one of them being his depiction of a stone-cold killer in his iconic The Equalizer franchise. With the latest installment of the film now released, the series director now has another vision in his mind, which is to create a superhero film.

Most popular for playing characters filled with exemplary wisdom or a bada*s persona with actions to speak for themselves, or both, Denzel Washington‘s performances somehow enhance the roles he takes on, in turn, elevating the entire movie-watching experience. With his latest franchise The Equalizer, the star manages to keep his reputation alive. And now, as the third film in the series is released, longtime series director Antoine Fuqua now shows interest in shifting gears and taking on a superhero project in the industry.

In a past interview, the director talked about his longtime partnership with the American Gangster star and how it played out when they were making these films that would enhance the reputation of the series even further. Then, when asked whether he was interested in making any superhero films in the industry, he didn’t think much about it since he already knew the answer, which was that he would love to make a film with Batman as the main protagonist since he thinks he can understand this character to a certain degree. He said:

“I think they’re fun, man. I think they’re fantastic, The one I connect the most to would be Batman, for whatever reason. It’s probably because I grew up with Batman. I lived in New York and he just seems like a character I’d understand a little bit more, but there’s been no more conversations about that.”

This can be a wonderful opportunity, both for Fuqua and DC Films CEO James Gunn as with the rebooting of the DCU, the character of Batman would also receive an overhaul, which will make Fuqua a great choice since Gunn’s execution seems to be quite lacking.

Looking at his past accolades and the success that he has received with his The Equalizer franchise, it’s not hard to see why Fuqua wouldn’t be on anyone’s mind when it comes to directing a superhero film, especially a film about the Caped Crusader himself as the character possesses traits that the director has an expertise in.

With his films in collaboration with Washington, we have come to know just how adept Fuqua is at creating dark and gritty characters with a bada*s persona and placing them against similar antagonists with violent natures. All of these combined with his intensity-building narration style will surely do wonders for the vigilante of Gotham City.
