But director David Leitch, who is known for the action comedy genre, and usually has some phenomenal stunts in his movies, revealed a very unusual scene to be one of his favorites, when it comes to The Fall Guy. The scene in question involves Ryan Gosling sitting in a car and bawling his eyes out, listening to one of the most celebrated musicians of this era.

David Leitch Reveals How Ryan Gosling’s Car Scene in The Fall Guy Came About

His filmography is filled with action and stunt work and leaves audiences in awe of the explosive scenes on screen. And The Fall Guy is a perfect example of what he does best. The scene in question is when Ryan Gosling‘s Colt is sitting inside a car, jamming to a song, as he bawl his eyes out. Right then, his lady love, played by the gorgeous Emily Blunt, comes and sees him in the condition. Speaking of how this scene comes to be, Leitch revealed that at the time of filming, they had used a different song but hadn’t decided on the final piece of music.

“So, we didn’t have that artist on the day we shot it, but we played an equally romantic song — that I’m not going to remember — at the time, that we were playing through the speakers from the time he’s walking to the truck and getting in. It was just to build up the emotion for Ryan.”

He further added how Gosling was very into the scene and gave it his best.

“He really wanted to make this a genuine, earnest scene, but also, we could undercut it with some comedy. So, we knew we had to land that track. We weren’t sure what it was going to be yet… You just knew you could undercut the scene in a million different ways.”

But soon enough, they knew which song was the perfect fit for the scene, and they went and got it done.

How Taylor Swift Gave Up Her Song to The Fall Guy

After the shooting was done and David Leitch and the crew were inside the cutting room deciding on what to keep and what to drop, Kelly McCormick, his wife, and producing partner kept playing a particular artist and one particular song on repeat, until the director caught into what she was hinting at.

“We were drifting through a bunch of different tracks, and Kelly [McCormick] was playing a lot of this artist — a lot of it — and she was not subtle in hinting to me what the song should be, and constantly playing this song. So I just said, ‘Okay, fine. I’ll throw it up against the montage, and we’ll see,’ and it was like it was made for it.”

He further added, without naming Taylor Swift, how she was gracious enough to give Universal the rights to her song All too Well, and that is what they ended up using for the scene.

“It was such an insightful grab and insightful thing from her, so we got it. And then we reached out, and she graciously gave us the rights for a price. But it’s great. It’s the perfect moment.”

Lauding his leading cast as well as Swift, David Leitch was overwhelmed with how perfectly everything came about.

“We have these two actors that are having this incredible moment with Barbie and Oppenheimer, and then we just happened to have this track in the DNA of the movie that is this other incredible artist who’s on the top of their game.”

Gosling, too, said that it was fun filming the scene, but it wasn’t a pretty shot, as he cried inside the car.

“Who hasn’t had a good car cry to Taylor Swift, right? So it felt kind of obvious in a way… Now they cut to me post-cry because they didn’t want to include the actual cut because it wasn’t pretty.”

Emily Blunt too said that her co-star seemed very emotional during the scene.

“You were very emotional!” Further adding, “Your face was so wet.”

Well, it looks like they had their own fun and some emotionality added to the scenes, making it a fun watch. The Fall Guy is in theaters now.
