“[Gary Oldman] came up to me and said, ‘Do you mind if we get a bit intense?’ And then he came towards me. I thought he was going to hold me, but he shook me and screamed at me! So hard that when he let me go, I almost fell. I wanted to go crawl up in a fetal position.”

One particular scene had him spiraling because of just how shaken the actor was. Oldman asked the actor if he would be okay with the two doing a little intense sequence. Although Radcliffe had no idea what he was signing up for, he said yes. Immediately he was met with aggressive shaking and screaming that traumatized him enough for that particular moment to make him curl up in a ball and shed some tears. However, ultimately the sequence helped him perform his upcoming scenes.

Gary Oldman Always Helped Daniel Radcliffe While Acting

Daniel Radcliffe admitted that a lot of trauma that Harry Potter went through was difficult to understand because of how young he was. Since his emotional growth was different from the character he was playing, a lot of what he was acting had to be learned via other methods. In such cases, Gary Oldman would always step up to help him.

“He’s always somebody who — just from being around, I don’t know whether it is from some kind of quite pure and childish desire to want to impress him or out of the fact that he just gets something out of me — having him around for some reason on the fifth film was such an amazing thing for me as an actor, and hopefully he’ll have that effect again.”

The actor admitted that Oldman had become some sort of a mentor for him who he was always eager to impress with his acting. He would try his best to give a performance worthy of remembering whenever Oldman was around.
