As Oppenheimer‘s dominance at the box office continues, becoming the highest-grossing WWII movie of all time, Robert Downey Jr. has nothing but nice things to say about his experience in the Nolan-led film. It’s hard to pinpoint one factor that elevates the movie to greatness, as the movie is almost perfect, and apart from Cillian Murphy, the Iron Man Star too doesn’t fail to leave his mark.

Considering it’s his first major project since parting ways with MCU, all eyes were stuck on the Marvel Star, and he didn’t disappoint. But despite being one of the biggest names in showbiz, the opportunity to work with Nolan made even RDJ go numb.

Robert Downey Jr. Went Numb After Receiving Christopher Nolan’s Offer

For a long while, both Robert Downey Jr. and Christopher Nolan worked in opposite forces, with the Due Date star kickstarting the MCU, and Nolan crafting the greatest Superhero trilogy with DC. However, the fierce competition between Marvel and DC didn’t hinder the Iron Man actor’s admiration for Nolan, as he was elated after receiving the opportunity to work alongside the auteur.

On initially receiving the offer from Christopher Nolan to star in the director’s most important work to date, even an actor like the stature of Robert Downey Jr. went numb, which makes sense. Considering Christopher Nolan is one of the few directors who can sell a movie with his name alone, working with The Dark Knight director is an honor that the Iron Man Star wasn’t going to miss. Downey said,

“Can you imagine if Chris Nolan called you and said he wants you to be in his movie? You kind of go numb and then you’re just nodding your head.”

Continuing his adulation for the period drama, the Tropic Thunder star even went as far as to declare it as the best work he has ever been in.
