A week after suffering catastrophic injuries in a vehicle accident last year, the American performer Anne Heche passed away. Many problems in Hollywood grabbed the public’s attention at the time of her death. The gender pay disparity in Hollywood over the years is one major topic that had been somewhat resurfaced in the wake of Heche’s passing.

Numerous celebrities still passionately oppose the pay gap between male and female performers in films, despite the fact that it has greatly narrowed. In the film Six Days, Seven Nights, in which Heche and Harrison Ford starred right before the turn of the century, this was unquestionably the situation.

In November 2021, Anne Heche made an appearance on an episode of Jason Tartick’s Trading Secrets podcast. She discussed being a mother, her engagement in the struggle for LGBTQ rights, and the financial repercussions of working in Hollywood, particularly as a woman. She also discussed the recruiting procedure for Six Days, Seven Nights and the difference in pay between her and Harrison Ford, who played her principal co-star. Revealing their paychecks, Heche said

“I think for Six Days, Seven Nights, I made $125,000 for four months of shooting. And Harrison made — and I know this because I used to make fun of him — He made $20 million and 12 points on the first dollar made on the movie,”

Even without taking into account the allegedly later-earned part of earnings that Ford received, it would practically translate into a massive $19.9 million compensation discrepancy between the two celebrities.

Anne Heche still called Harrison Ford “her hero

Anne Heche stated that she had no animosity towards Harrison Ford despite the significant income disparity between them. She even gave him a lot of credit for being so encouraging to her both before and after she was cast in Six Days, Seven Nights.

Heche, at the time of her being cast for the rom-com, had just made her relationship with Ellen DeGeneres public. Even though the duo had started dating in 1997, their same-sex relationship’s public nature made things more difficult right away. In fact, several people actively advocated for her removal from Six Days, Seven Nights. Harrison Ford, on the other hand, defended Heche in the face of the criticism.

In a 2020 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Heche admitted

“I would not have gotten that movie, [but] Harrison Ford, he was a hero. He called me the day after they said I wasn’t gonna get it, because I took Ellen to the [Volcano] premiere… [and said] I’ll see ya on the set,”

Heche’s death was a sad tragedy however her fans can still learn about the actress’s life through her memoir named Call Me Anne. Her book provides a deeper understanding of what went on around the time the shooting for Six Days, Seven Nights took place.

While one might argue that the gender pay gap has significantly reduced and people have become quite more open to same sex relationships, there still remains a long road ahead of all of us.
