Actor Matthew Perry had huge plans for his Hollywood comeback for his die-hard fans, but unfortunately, the actor passed away on October 28, 2023, as the actor was found unresponsive in his hot tub. Reports suggest that he died from an apparent drowning. The actor’s close friend Athenna Crosby, who was spotted with him a day before his death, recently came forward to talk about Perry’s plans for his future.
The actor was reportedly working on a biopic and wanted actor Zac Efron to play a younger version of him. In recent years, the actor’s popularity witnessed a sharp decline mainly because he didn’t appear in movies or TV shows, but the actor came up with several plans to return to the big screen.
Matthew Perry wanted to make a comeback
Athenna Crosby, a friend of the actor who was spotted with Matthew Perry a day before his death, recently talked to ET, explaining that he was hoping to make a comeback,
“He was doing great. He is a very funny person, as most people know him to be. He’s goofy, he’s silly. He was cracking jokes the whole time. He was speaking to me about some of the upcoming projects that he wanted to work on. He was very optimistic about the future. He was talking about how there’s been a public resurgence of interest in him lately and how he was hoping to utilize that to have a second act in his career. He was happy as a clam. So, that’s the person that I spoke to.”
On October 28, 2023, Perry returned to his home in Pacific Palisades after playing pickleball, and two hours later, he was found unresponsive in his hot tub by his assistant Briana Brancato. He was later pronounced dead at the age of 54.
Matthew Perry wanted to make a movie about his life
In the interview, Crosby also revealed that Perry had plans to create a biopic and even decided which actor would play a younger version of him in the biopic,
“He said that he wanted to make a movie about his life and he had worked with Zac Efron in the past on a movie, and he said that he wanted Zac Efron to play him as a younger version [of himself] and that he was gonna ask him soon to do that. He was just looking forward to sharing more about his story and his recovery from addiction, and really championing that cause to help more people, so he was so optimistic and happy about everything that he wanted to do.”
The actor gained significant popularity after he played the role of Chandler Bing on the NBC television sitcom FRIENDS (1994-2004). Apart from this, he showcased his talent in various films like Fools Rush In (1997), Almost Heroes (1998), Three to Tango (1999), The Whole Nine Yards (2000), Serving Sara (2002), The Whole Ten Yards (2005), and 17 Again (2009).
