Jonah Hill has starred in some very critically acclaimed projects like The Wolf of Wall Street, Moneyball, 21 Jump Street, and Superbad, which have helped him establish himself as an exceptional talent. The actor has also been nominated for an Academy Award twice in his career, proving himself a force to be reckoned with. Having a very unique approach to the characters he plays, he has made a reputation for playing roles like no other.
It is no surprise that there were several respected projects that Hill has ended up auditioning for over the years. Unfortunately, one of the biggest parts of being an actor is rarely getting a call back when auditioning for a film. One such experience that the 21 Jump Street actor had left him devastated. That being, the time he auditioned for a role in The Social Network and lost it to Justin Timberlake.

Jonah Hill Was Up Against Justin Timberlake for The Social Network
Jonah Hill gave an interview with The Bill Simmons Podcast, via IndieWire, where he revealed that he was in the running for one of the most iconic films of all time. The actor confessed that he auditioned for the role of Sean Parker in the David Fincher film. By the end, it was down to him and Justin Timberlake.
“Low-key, David Fincher, or high-key, David Fincher didn’t want me in ‘Social Network,’” Hill mentioned, “The studio wanted me, I think, and then Justin Timberlake was amazing in it.”
Hill revealed that Fincher was not very interested in having him star in the film when Timberlake was an option for the role. However, the studio that was making the movie was more interested in having The Wolf of Wall Street actor rather than the Trolls actor. Unfortunately for Hill, the role ended up going to Timberlake, having a better performance and he starred in the film alongside Jesse Eisenberg and Andrew Garfield.
Not Being a Part of The Social Network Left Jonah Hill Heartbroken
The Social Network has become a cult classic in Hollywood, not only because it told the story of Mark Zuckerberg, but also because of all of its other aspects. David Fincher’s direction in the film is phenomenal, being one of the best movies of his career. The cherry on top are performances, all of which were very strong and impressed more than a couple of critics. The film went on to win more than one Oscar for how good it was.
“‘The Social Network’ is the one that I was actually like, years later, was like, ‘Fuck, like I’m so bummed,’” said Hill about loosing the role.
It is no surprise that having almost been a part of something as significant as this has left Jonah Hill more than a little upset. The actor confessed that even many years later, he still feels disappointed that he was unable to become a part of this project, feeling ‘bummed’ to this date.
The Social Network is available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
