Rumors about Henry Cavill playing the supervillain Victor Von Doom in the upcoming film The Fantastic Four were spread on X. A few fake pages shared the news and credited it to Variety. However, many fans and industry insiders have since debunked this rumor. However, one Marvel scooper went further ahead and shared that Cavill was offered another Marvel role, which he happily accepted.
While the scooper did not reveal which character Henry Cavill will be playing, many speculate the role to be Captain Britain. Fans have been expecting Cavill to join the MCU after he was untimely let go from the DCEU due to the overhauling of the franchise.

Ever since The Fantastic Four family casting was announced by Marvel Studios, fans have been throwing around names of potential actors to play the supervillain Doctor Doom. Mads Mikkelsen and Cillian Murphy were the most prominent names, but several fake accounts spread the false news of Henry Cavill taking on the role. Industry insiders, including Daniel Richtman, called out the lie in the Man of Steel actor’s casting news.

This news spread like wildfire through social media, with some fans absolutely believing it. Another account shared an optimistic post about how great it would be if the fake news turned out to be actually true. Marvel scooper, @MyTimeToShineH, who has previously shared some credible information about the franchise, responded that Cavill was offered something else and that he accepted the role.
When one fan refused to believe what the scooper shared, @MyTimeToShineH once again clarified his stance with a cryptic reply. The scooper’s reply read, “You will find that I’m not [lying], sooner than you think.” This reply hints at an announcement happening very soon about the Argylle actor’s potential role in the MCU.

While many fans still hope that Cavill gets the Doctor Doom role, some have begun speculating that he is set to appear as Captain Britain in another upcoming MCU project. A few fans believe that the character will be introduced in one of the upcoming films as Sonya Falsworth’s secret weapon. Sonya Falsworth is an MI6 agent who earlier appeared in Secret Invasion as a friend of Nick Fury and played by Olivia Colman.
Henry Cavill Expressed Interest In The Role Of Captain Britain
Brian Braddock, aka Captain Britain, was introduced in Marvel Comics’ Captain Britain Weekly #1 in 1976. The character has a long history in the comics, famously known for leading the British super-team, Excalibur. He was also part of the Secret Avengers and the Illuminati. Henry Cavill was a popular pick among fans to play Captain Britain, and some fans imagined the actor in the role in several artworks, including one from @buffy2ville.
During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Cavill was asked if he would consider taking on an MCU role. He shared that he had seen the fan-made artwork of him as Captain Britain. He revealed that playing the role “would be loads of fun.” He wanted to play a modernized version of the character like its American counterpart, Captain America. The Enola Holmes actor told THR:
“I have the internet and I have seen the various rumors about Captain Britain and that would be loads of fun to do a cool, modernized version of that — like the way they modernized Captain America. There’s something fun about that, and I do love being British.”
Nothing about Henry Cavill’s potential MCU casting can be confirmed at this time. Anything is possible at this time, including Cavill taking on The Fantastic Four role of Doctor Doom. Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach were announced as the main cast in the film. The Fantastic Four is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 25, 2025.
