Mads Mikkelsen, in the last decade or so, has made a place for himself in the movie industry that is hard to ignore. From Le Chiffre to Hannibal Lecter to Dr. Jürgen Voller, he plays his characters in a way that leaves the audiences completely mesmerized. Whether it’s a soldier from the past, a doctor from the present, or a cannibalistic serial killer from all over, Mikkelsen can do it all and how.
From his charm to his eyes that can pierce through the soul, Mikkelsen has won over audiences and directors alike. Many who have worked with him once prefer to cast him again because of his talent and craftsmanship. However, the Danish superstar still has one name on his wishlist that is yet to call him up for a role in one of his movies.

Mads Mikkelsen Wants to Work With Danish Filmmaker Lars Von Trier
Since his debut as Tonny in Nicolas Winding Refn’ Pusher (1996), Mads Mikkelsen has gone from one success to another. He worked with Refn in a couple more films, which found success not only in Denmark but also internationally. But still, there is one name he is yet to work with. The actor has not yet been called upon by one of the most famous Danish filmmakers- Lars Von Trier.
The actor thinks the Nymphomaniac director is very different from the rest and has set a bar for Danish cinema and the rest of the world. Speaking to The Guardian once, Mikkelsen said,
“He was very arrogant about what he wanted to do. Nobody could interfere. He inspired a lot of young directors to think: I am not going to listen to the producers, I am going to make my film. Out of that come a lot of shit films, but also some fantastic ones.”

And though he is yet to star in any of von Trier’s movies, Mikkelsen does not reject the idea of ever working with him either. If the project is interesting enough (and he gets a call), the actor would definitely say yes.
Mads Mikkelsen: The Success Story
The Hunt actor, 58, became successful in the Danish film industry before transitioning to Hollywood, but did not leave his roots behind. He has been part of four of the eight Danish films that have been nominated for Oscars in the 21st century. Out of these four, the 2021 entrant Another Round won the Oscar for Best International Feature Film.

His latest Danish escapade, The Promised Land, has also secured a nomination at the 96th Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category. The Nikolaj Arcel movie is a period drama, and the actor-director duo seem happy about the success of their latest project. For his next adventure, the actor is joining hands with his Hannibal creator, Bryan Fuller, for a horror thriller alongside Sigourney Weaver, titled Dust Bunny.
