From his first appearance in 2000s X-Men to his final outing in 2017s Logan, Jackman’s portrayal of the adamantium-clawed mutant is immensely loved by fans all over the world. However, Darren Aronofsky preferred Brad Pitt to play the lead role in his movie, as he was not impressed by the Australia actor’s performance as Wolverine.

Hugh Jackman’s Performance As Wolverine Did Not Impress Darren Aronofsky

During an exclusive interview with Ain’t It Cool News, Darren Aronofsky stated that he had seen Hugh Jackman in the X-Men films, and he was not impressed by his acting chops, as he believed that the actor can not work in drama films.

“To be honest, Hugh wasn’t actually on my initial list, because I had seen him in the X-Men movies, but I hadn’t seen the work he can do dramatically.”

However, Aronofsky’s opinion of the Logan actor changed, when he was invited to the premiere of Jackman’s play Australia, where he could see the acting depth of the actor, which had left him impressed.

“He just lit up the room. At the end of the show, I’m suddenly with everyone else on my feet–standing ovation, you know. And, I talked to him, and he was a really nice guy, and everyone will tell you how nice a guy he is. But, he’s authentically nice in the sense that when we were on set, he would treat every P.A. in the same way he treated me.”

The Whale director was so impressed by the Jackman that he sent him the script of his film, The Fountain, and the actor became a part of the film, the very next day.

Hugh Jackman Was Grateful To Work Alongside Rachel Weisz

After the success of The Fountain, Hugh Jackman stated that he enjoyed working alongside his co-star Rachel Weisz, as their chemistry in the film was praise-worthy. And it was commended not only by the audience but also by the critics as well. Their interaction felt natural, showcasing a natural connection, as a result, their love story had an emotional impact on the film. And as a fellow actor, Jackman could not help but praise his co-star.

“We had a relationship and a close bond between these two people and that just had to happen on set, and I was very lucky to have Rachel; that girl can do anything as an actress and she’s incredibly generous.”

The Fountain is a must-watch film due to its captivating plot, gripping storyline, outstanding visuals, and thought-provoking themes. As a result, the film earned $15.4 million worldwide at the box office, with additional sales of $9.7 million in video sales.
