Matthew Perry Passed Away Last Year at the Age of 54
Honoring Perry along with other remarkable personalities at the 75th Emmy Awards has made it the first-ever award show to do. The renowned actor passed away in October of last year after his shocking demise at his Los Angeles home. He was found unresponsive in a hot tub at his home according to law enforcement at the age of 54.
There were no signs of foul play or drugs on the scene but the LA County Medical Examiner’s Office later revealed that he died from “the acute effects of ketamine.” His demise entirely shocked the world with many paying homage to him for his incredible work in the entertainment world despite his personal history.
While his best-known character, Chandler Bing remained a hilarious and sarcastic personality, he has gone through extreme medical complications including a three-decade addiction struggle that he faced during his time on FRIENDS.
He spent decades trying to remain sober as he mentioned in his memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing which came at a hefty cost including going to rehab 15 times. He even faced a near-death experience back in 2019 due to his colon bursting from opioid overuse. Many such instances are well documented in his memoir which is available on bookstores.
