In the movie Zodiac, Robert Downey Jr. played the character of Paul Avery. It was not just his look that shocked fans but also his incredible performance in the movie. David Fincher was the creative force behind the 2007 mystery movie. He had set some strict rules on set and there was one rule that Downey was averse to. As per the reports, an individual takes on every actor would keep them on their feet for many hours. While talking about how the 58-year-old actor protested and complained during the film, the Fight Club director said,

“Robert Downey actually came up to me and said, ‘I can’t work like this. I never get to go to my trailer. I can never get my shit together. I’m on my feet 14 hours a day.’ He actually left mason jars of urine on the set, like over in the corner. He’d pee and bring it back as a form of protest.”

The Sherlock Holmes actor never confirmed this claim by Fincher. Reportedly as Downey wasn’t happy working in restrictive conditions, there was tension brewing between the actor and the director on the sets of Zodiac.

During an interview, when the Iron Man actor was asked about his experience working with the Seven director, the actor gave a very honest answer. While talking about Fincher, Downey said,

“He’s very tough on technique. So if you’re a technically proficient actor, you’re going to survive. If you’re not, you’re going to hate him.”

The 60-year-old director also commented on collaborating with the Iron Man 3 actor. Fincher said,

“Sometimes it’s really hard because it might not feel collaborative, but ultimately filmmaking is a director’s medium. I just decided, aside from several times I wanted to garrote him, that I was going to give him what he wanted. I think I’m a perfect person to work for him because I understand gulags.”
