Seven years after the first game, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 is finally out for gamers to enjoy. While the game might not end up as 2024’s best release, the long-awaited sequel already stands out as one of the most technically accomplished games out there. Fans and critics have praised the game’s overall narrative and mechanics, but it still lacks basic features such as game saves.

Saving is undoubtabtely a crucial aspect of most video games, particularly where your characters can get annihilated. We’ve seen popular games such as Fallout and Cyberpunk 2077 giving us an autosave feature. Unfortunately, Senua’s Saga isn’t accommodating in this aspect.

Hellblade 2’s Next Update Needs to Add Much-Needed Saving Features

Hellblade2 needs auto-saving | Steam

Popular games like Fallout have always featured the ability to auto-save and give players multiple save files. These are some of the most basic features that are exploited in any game to allow your character to escape tricky situations or even get back to a point where you could make that one crucial decision to change the entire narrative.

However, Ninja Theory isn’t beating around the bush and clearly wants every player to suffer for every dumb decision in-game. Unlike most modern video games, Hellblade 2 has no option to save your game quickly whenever you want. There’s no way to save or load via the game pause menu or list option on the title screen. This is because manual saving isn’t a thing.

That’s not all; Hellblade 2 doesn’t allow players to save multiple files. This means that if your single game file gets corrupted or the game doesn’t load the saved state, you won’t be able to finish the game. Many in the community have reported.

It’s a shame that Hellblade 2 still lacks such basic features, which have been integral for single-player titles for decades. Multiple save files and quick saves features can allow players to explore the game in greater depth and even safeguard them against issues plaguing file saves. Let’s hope Hellblade 2‘s next update finally brings these much-needed features to the game.

Hellblade 2’s Game Length Should’ve Been Longer

Hellblade 2’s game length | Steam

It’s not only the game’s lack of basic features that have plagued Hellblade 2‘s release. After Microsoft acquired Ninja Theory, many expected that the developers would bring a sequel that would be even longer than the original Hellblade game. However, players were disappointed to see that Hellblade 2 just takes 6-7 hours to beat.

However, Ninja Theory has repeatedly stressed that the game would be a short experience. Even before the game’s launch, Dom Matthews, Ninja Theory’s studio head, claimed that Hellblade 2 would be quite similar in length to the first game. The developers must be appreciated for sticking to their vision and delivering a truly unique experience that’s needed in the current modern gaming landscape.
