One player recently shared their idea of new missions that could be in the game, and Arrowhead Game Studios CEO has revealed a mission type that was first planned for Helldivers 2, and if it were added, the situation in the game would have been completely different than what it is currently.

Helldivers 2 Had Assault Missions but Didn’t Make the Cut

Helldivers 2 could have had assault missions at one point.

One Helldivers 2 player took to X/Twitter and shared a concept of assault missions in the game that was created by another player on Reddit. The concept showed what the missions would be like if they were in the game.

The concept missions that the player shared tasked players with destroying strategic computers and spore citadels to deliver democracy. The “Destroy Strategic Computer” missions would see players fight through hordes of automatons, including fabricators and armored gates, before activating the terminals and lowering the shield to drop a Hellbomb.

In the “Destroy Spore Citadel” mission, players would blast through mountains, fight the Terminids, call down the Termicide Injector, and defend it until extracted. The concept missions also caught the eye of Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt, who said that the studio had once thought of something like this but, sadly, it did not come to fruition. Pilestedt said:

This is crazy similar to a prototype objective from some years back.

Several players asked Pilestedt why they weren’t in the game, but Pilestedt did not reveal why the prototype objectives did not make it to the final game or if they could be added by the user, but these have surely excited fans.

Helldivers 2 Fans Want the Concept to Become a Reality

Fans have said that they would love a mission like this in Helldivers 2, but the chances of it coming to the game are really low. One player said that the assault missions would be fun, while another added that Arrowhead should add them to the game for the “love of democracy.”

Players stated that even if the missions were very small, they would be amazing, with one player saying, “That’s easy and fun mission; no need to overthink this. Blow everything up and get out.” Some also said that these missions would easily fit the game’s “flow and sense of dynamic warfare,” hoping that they get to see it someday.

Fans also did not hesitate to give some suggestions to developers as to how they should bring the missions to the game.

One player said to “reduce the number of basic reinforce, then every time you get a progress point, add a few more reinforce” with another adding that they would like to see Arrowhead “experiment with shorter-timed full-fledged missions with like a 6-man squad.”
