Helldivers 2, the co-op shooter from Arrowhead Game Studios, has been a smash hit and has taken the gaming world by storm. The game is available on PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam and has sold over a million copies in just four days, becoming one of the best-selling titles on the latter.
The game has been blowing through the developer’s expectations and has seen a large number of players join since day one, with the developer needing to raise server caps constantly. The average playtime of Helldivers 2 has been revealed, and it speaks volumes about the game.
Helldivers 2’s Average Playtime Is Pretty Impressive
Player interest in the third-person shooter game has only grown since its release, and it has broken several records in the process. Helldivers 2 became the best PC launch by PlayStation, dethroning God of War and surpassing games like Marvel’s Spider-Man and Horizon Zero Dawn.
The game has also beaten titles like Starfield and Destiny 2 in terms of all-time peak concurrent players and currently has a 458k player peak, that’s been recorded in the last 24 hours. The game has also left behind high-profile games such as GTA V, Baldur’s Gate 3, Call of Duty, and more.
Arrowhead CEO and Helldivers 2 Creative Director Johan Pilestedt has now revealed the average playtime of the game, which is impressive for a title that’s been out only for two weeks. Pilestedt took to his official X/Twitter handle and stated:
The average playtime of Helldivers 2 is now 17 hours and 57 minutes. This is crazy good. Thank you everyone for helping spread democracy and making this game successful! All love.
This sort of success and player count couldn’t have been anticipated by the studio itself, and it shows how much players are enjoying playing the game. Many players replied to Pilestedt, saying that the game deserves it and also sharing their in-game time, with many gamers recording over 50–60 hours so far.
One player said that they crossed 17 hours in just two days, adding that they took time off work to play the game. Many also appreciated the game and the developers behind it for making it “an absolute banger.”
The Latest Patch in Helldivers 2 Fixes Server Issues and Raises the Server Cap
This massive influx of players also resulted in server issues, but the developers have been taking care of it with regular updates. Helldivers 2 has been a success across PC and PlayStation, and the large number of players coming in to play the game has caused crashes and capacity hits.
The developers have been at work to fix this by raising server caps. The studio first raised the cap to 500,000 to improve server stability, and the recent patch has raised the cap to 700,000 concurrent players.
There are still several issues that players have come across, and Arrowhead Studios is working to fix all of them for a smoother experience. This means that more players will be able to log in and record more hours, breaking more records.
