The only real downside when playing an online live-service game is downtime, and the two biggest multiplayer games at the moment are Helldivers 2 and Fortnite and even they are not immune from server maintenance. The agonizing pain of having to wait for hours before being able to log in and see and try the newest content, but with great content comes great downtime.

Helldivers 2 servers were not prepared for the number of players wanting to dive in after the recent mech updates, players had to wait for quite some time to queue in a match. Fortnite, however, is a much grander game in terms of scale and has seen quite a significant overhaul by removing some parts and replacing them with something better.

Helldivers 2 And Fortnite Players Are The Latest Victims Of Server Maintenance

After the liberation of Kien Twan, the mechs are now available in-game, which drew the attention of almost every Helldiver. Unfortunately, their excitement was halted due to the servers being overwhelmed. Arrowhead Game Studios worked hard to address the issue and fix it.

At the height of Fortnite‘s latest update, players have been accustomed to waiting only a few short hours before the game servers would return online and play it for hours without end. The tradition ended abruptly with Chapter 5 Season 2 where Epic Games took to their X page and apologized for the delay and added an extra 8 hours to fix issues.

Fortnite’s classy yet professional way of addressing their community without engaging in heated arguments should be studied by Arrowhead Game Studios developers as to how to handle complaints without the CEO having to step in.

Server Maintenance Can Be Annoyingly Justified

The Gods of Olympus has made their way to Fortnite, and the servers can't keep up with Zeus' electric personality.

Joking aside, surely the newest update will give players a plethora of new content such as weapons, biomes, quests, abilities, and more, and needs some serious tuning before being put out. The developers do not want to put out an unfinished and broken update after being hyped up, and it goes to show their commitment to the game and the lengths they are willing to reach even if it means delaying the launch.

Game companies like Epic Games and Arrowhead Game Studios strive for a quality gaming experience, and that is a difficult task and a heavy ask for the team. The positive impact that both games have on the community is monumental, players are willing to team up with strangers and socialize through this platform which is why they can get a little aggressive and impatient because of sheer excitement.

Server downtimes should not be taken in a negative light but the complete opposite, it means that the developers are preparing for the players and work hard to ensure their wait is worth it. Losing a couple of hours is nothing, rather than not getting to play it at all. Both consumer and producer should practice consideration and understanding, Helldivers 2 players can blast enemies all day long and Fortnite can host hundreds of players trying to get the newest mythic item.
