It has been revealed that Helldivers 2 developers had plans to add different maps in the game at one point, however, that idea was scrapped as it would require different mechanics from the mechanics that are applied on the battlefield and even if the developers introduce these maps, no one can stop the team-killing.

These different maps would serve as underground closed corridors where players can experience a new and unique way to experience the battle. There are certainly various ways this idea can be implemented but for now, Arrowhead has put this idea on the back burner. For now, they are only focused on improving the game, and hopefully, in the future, fans might get these underground maps.

Recently, a Helldivers 2 developer shared some information about Arrowhead’s plans to add various underground maps in Helldivers 2 where players could have a different combat experience. On the official Helldivers discord server, the developer was asked if players will get some “cave underground maps” in the future. He confirmed that developers have contemplated this at one point,

“Plans? Don’t know. Something devs have contemplated? Yes. And yes they could be really cool, but they would also require a lot of tech and logistics based on it being a very different kind of gameplay wise than surface fighting. No strats, friendly fire hell etc.”

There is a lot of toxicity in the gaming community and in order to properly implement these maps, Arrowhead needs to look into the team-killing issue. The problem isn’t even toxic players as many would unintentionally kill their teammates in this close-quarters, corridor-based gameplay.

For now, it seems like they are focusing more on “surface fighting” rather than underground maps. There is a possibility of fans getting these unique maps in the future but it will not be happening any time soon.
