The Helldivers 2 hype train continues to sweep past other titles as, yet another addition is all set to give the game another major boost. The live-service game has done everything right, going the extra mile to tease future content in-game, as spotted by some eagle-eyed players. Helldivers 2 players recently got their hands on Mechs, the release of which broke the game’s servers for a while.
According to an approval given by Johan Pilestedt, the CEO of Arrowhead Studios, the game could yet be getting its most fiery addition in the form of a fan suggestion. It may not be official, but Pilestedt’s reply shows how much the developers like listening to the players.
Pilestedt Seemingly Approves the Idea of a Fiery Guard Dog in Helldivers 2
Guard Dogs in Helldivers 2 are essentially just drones that follow players, and they come with a Liberator assault rifle. These are useful in eliminating most low-level enemies, but add a fiery version to them, and they could end up dealing a lot of damage.
This was suggested by a fan on the official Helldivers Reddit forum, and the post immediately picked up several comments.
So when are we getting our Guard Dog Flamethrower?

This idea was floated by a fan on Reddit, and surprisingly, the CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios, Johan Pilestedt replied, “Careful what you wish for,” almost approving of the idea. Pilestedt shared a screenshot of the fan’s post from Reddit to what looks like his developer’s chat.

One of them mentioned “We have to do this“, while another expanded on the idea that it could instead be an AI drone following the players and shooting at will, concluding by stating “friendly-fire from these will be amazing.”
His reply was also met with several excited fans, one of whom even went ahead and suggested a name for the advanced Guard Dog, naming it Cerebrus to which Pilestedt replied stating it was a “very good idea“.
Fans Come Up with Positives and Damages of a Fiery Guard Dog
The most upvoted comment to the post was by a user who hinted at just how many times players who use a flaming drone following them could end up being themselves. Another replied stating it could also harm teammates, while others just looked at the funny side of it.
One of the fans replied to the Reddit post stating how a flamethrower drone could come with a 2% chance of inflicting damage upon the players who use it. Another replied stating how that’s being way too optimistic, and that the possibility could be a lot more to which Pilestedt also replied with an “Lol“.
In a period of several live-service failures, the old approach to creating one by Arrowhead has thus far proven to be a massive hit. The developers listening to fans is just an additional icing on the cake that improves the Helldivers 2 experience even more.
