Helldivers 2 is a title that is currently the center of attention for a lot of gamers on the PlayStation 5 and PC. Arrowhead Game Studios developed the title; Johan Pilestedt, the game’s director, regularly posts on his social media regarding the title.
Pilestedt also regularly engages with fans of the game. Recently, when he raised a question with his fans about a title he was looking forward to, following a fan who proposed the idea of a title that would be a spinoff to Helldivers 2. The director’s response was pragmatic but would serve as bad news for fans of the RTS video game genre.

As stated, the conversation happened between the game’s CEO and a fan over the popular social media account, X, after Pilestedt asked if gamers were looking forward to the upcoming real-time strategy game, Manor Lords.

A fan then proposed an RTS spinoff based on the Helldivers world, where players would develop the Super Earth and strategies for maximum benefit and domination in the entire cosmos. This was the conversation that unfolded between the two individuals.
The game director is a video game enthusiast and posts regularly about video games, even apart from Arrowhead Game Studio’s latest. But, despite his love for gaming, he has proven to be adaptable. A prime example of this was the change in genre from Helldivers to its sequel.
The former was a top-down shooter, and the latter is a co-op, third-person shooter. But generally speaking, third-person co-op shooters are a genre that is explored by developers more and is accepted by the masses with much more ease.
Could there be a Helldivers 2 spinoff at all?
If one checks out the studio’s works, various titles belong to various genres. That means that, unlike some studios that only stick to one particular genre that works, Arrowhead Game Studios likes to experiment with their craft. If the Helldivers IP continues on its path to success and mainstream relevance, then a spinoff shouldn’t be entirely impossible for the studio.
Pilestedt even hinted at this as he partially agreed with the fan’s statement; this might be a nod to the idea of the spinoffs with some undecided parameters. The genre of the spinoff seems to be one of those parameters.
Regardless, the IP is still in the early stages, is only nine years old, and is relevant only due to one title. If a spinoff is to be considered, it has to be when the IP has matured enough and has gained enough mainstream relevance.
