Another day, another horrifying thought for Helldivers 2 players, as a new suggested mission type brings forward some trauma from the Gears of War games. At the moment, this is only a discussion on the Helldivers 2 updates page on Twitter/X, but if the DM Joel hears about it, we could be screwed.

The missions in question would involve the bug holes that the Terminid enemies spawn out from across the universe, but rather than just throwing an explosive into the hole and running away screaming as the Terminids suffer, this mission brings a whole new system into the Helldivers experience.

Helldivers 2 Could Be Bringing in a New Mission Type, and It Could Be a Waking Nightmare for Players

Currently, a post is circulating on Twitter/X regarding Helldivers 2, which could eventually expand the experience that players are already enjoying, but with a more horrifying twist. The mission type in question would be the opportunity to delve below the planets we already explore to take on the root of the Terminid problem.

One of the main features that players would have to struggle through is a constantly expanding set of tunnels full of Terminids that would likely cause problems for players and bring back some fears for those who have played Gears of War.

In Gears of War, players would be tasked with roaming through underground tunnels in an attempt to find a beacon that would map the tunnels as the player took on the Locust hoard. This would be similar to how Helldivers 2 would create the Terminid caves, but with a lot more chaos and less help from our friends in space.

If This Mission Type Does Come to Helldivers 2, We Would Likely Lose a Lot of Support From Our Fleet

The potential mission type reminds players of the horror of Gears of War.

If these missions did become a reality, as scary as they would be, they could be even scarier, as players would lose the opportunity to call in reinforcements from the fleet. Many stratagems that players bring into their missions tend to be air strikes, nukes, and much more that you cannot take underground unless you blow up the ground.

This would prove very difficult and would cause a lot of players to struggle in these mission types as they would have to rely on backpacks and small weapons, as bringing a rocket launcher into a small, tight cave would end very badly.

One of the only ways this would become a reality and work is by having the floor open up slightly, providing players the option to summon resources, but only in certain locations. Sadly, it is unlikely that this will become a reality, but it would be a very interesting experiment for Helldivers 2 to take on.

What do you think about Helldivers 2 potentially bringing in a brand-new mission type? Would you like to explore the Terminid caves to eliminate them at their source? Let us know in the comments!
