Helldivers 2, the co-op shooter title from Arrowhead Game Studios, was a smash hit upon release back in February and is still going strong. It has been praised by fans and critics alike for getting almost everything right in a live-service title, from its progression system to freedom in gameplay.

Arrowhead also brings new content to keep players engaged, but it still has not been able to hit it out of the park with one meta-media that has been done exceptionally well by Remedy Entertainment in Alan Wake 2. Fans think it’s time that developers think about this and do more.

Helldivers 2 Needs to Capitalize on Meta Media in the Game

Players want to see something more on Helldivers 2 TV than just Strohmann News.

Alan Wake 2 was a massive success, and one of the important aspects of the game that appealed to players was the transmedia. There is a properly detailed live-action cutscene sequence, TV shorts incorporated into the gameplay, and a cinema screen that players can change. There are also puzzles to solve, which makes the experience much more immersive for players.

Helldivers 2 does some of this too, but players are not satisfied. Helldivers 2 has a TV that at times broadcasts news for players to stay updated with what’s going on, and while players like that, they want to see more than just occasionally catching news. Redditor and Helldivers 2 player u/GhostCrackets took to r/Helldivers and said that the developers should use the TV “more often.”

Players have said that they can catch Strohmann News for story-related things, but they want to see more. Some players have said that there should always be something playing on TV, be it news or anything else, and they have some great suggestions for the developers to think about if they could bring it to the players that would truly take the immersion in the game to another level.

Fans Have Some Suggestions for Arrowhead to Fix This Issue

Helldivers 2 fans have said that the developers should bring more commercials that should play as well as probably allow players to be able to control the TV and skip the segments to go for another one. Players have also said that it should also give details on balance changes and other updates.

One player said that they fancy seeing an “update on the fronts,” adding that the lady from Strohmann News should record the lines for each planet and make a report on the front. They also gave an example of what the reports should be, and it surely is exciting. Here’s what the player stated:

On the Automaton front [splice], Planet X has been liberated as of [splice] 4 hours ago [splice], and Helldivers in the region are pushing onwards to Planet Y [splice] and Planet Z.”

Another player also said that developers could show the deaths from the deaths with a section called “in remembrance of our fallen heroes.” Redditor u/Forsaken-Taste-8186 said, “24/7 with commercials and other things playing at all times would make the game that much more immersive.”
