Arrowhead Game Studios’ Helldivers 2 has been a massive success, with hordes of players joining the fight for democracy. The game has been praised by fans and critics and is going strong with new regular content and updates that have kept players fighting to liberate Super Earth.
The game is available on PS5 and Steam, but a recent announcement by Sony has brought a huge problem for many. This may ruin players’ experiences as they may not be able to follow PlayStation and Steam instructions, which could result in them not being able to play the game.
Helldivers 2 Runs Into a Serious Issue With New Announcement
Arrowhead announced that new players on PC will have to link their Steam accounts with a PlayStation Network account from May 6 before they start playing the game, and current players will see the “mandatory login” from May 30th and will need to have linked their accounts by June 4th.
The developer stated that the account linking is required to protect players and “uphold the values of safety and security provided on PlayStation.” The developer added that this would also help the players avoid “griefing and abuse,” as it allows the studio to ban Helldivers 2 players engaging in such behavior.
While this may have been announced in good faith, players think it might cost them the game. One fan took to X/Twitter and said that players who do not reside in PSN-listed regions cannot make an account and, ultimately, cannot play the game.
For all of those saying to "Just make a PSN account bro." If you've been playing Helldivers 2 and do not live in one of these listed countries you cannot make a PSN account. Choosing a country you do not live in is a violation of Sony's TOS and could lead to account termination.…

The player also added that if players make an account by choosing another country they do not live in, it will lead to violation of Sony’s Terms of Services (TOS) and the account can be terminated. This could lead to players in unlisted countries missing out on the game as they would not be able to create a PSN account, and players are not happy with this.
Fans Are Not Happy With the Account Linking Requirements
Several fans have shared their displeasure with this requirement and have said that they are tired of creating third parties and linking them for every game they purchase on Valve’s platform. One player called Steam allowing 3rd party account requirements to play a game, a “shady thing.”
They added that if it’s really needed, the platform should verify if the player has a PSN account “before selling me the game. But that would hurt the sales.”
The shady thing is Steam allowing these 3rd party account requirements to play a game I bought directly from their store
If they are gonna pull that requirement, they should verify that I have a PSN account BEFORE selling me the game
But that would hurt the sales— Sueh (@ElMorphe) May 3, 2024
One player pointed out that players also can not change the region of their PSN account once it is made so it is another problem to play the game.
Just make an account of Battlnet
Just make an account on Origin
Just make an account on Nintendo
Just make an account on Ubisoft
Just make an account on XBox
Just make an account on Epic Games
Just make an account on PSNI bought this game on steam, let me stay on steam.

Many others also piled in with their thoughts, and the collective thought is that this should not be happening and players should not be required to link accounts if they are not playing on other platforms. Some have said that they need to comply as they want to keep playing the game.
