The recent Major Order in Helldivers 2 required players to defend 10 planets across the Terminid and Automaton sectors and the Helldivers 2 community came together to convince Game Master Joel to liberate Charon Prime if they liberate Martale as these two sectors are interlinked. Joel agreed and fans began their battle for something called Martale Gambit.
Although fans felt like they had everything under control, a community manager revealed that this Major Order was supposed to result in a loss as it was an attack from both factions. Now, the defense campaign on Charon Prime has ended while Martale was 94% liberated. Fans speculate that Joel diverting the attention from Charon Pride has something to do with the Illumniate’s arrival.
Is Joel taking away the attention of the Helldivers 2 community from Charon Prime to introduce the Illuminate?
While completing the recent Major Order in Helldivers 2, players reached out to Game Master Joel through Discord and tried to convince him to liberate Charon Prime if they liberated Martale as players studied the supply lines to Charon Prime and concluded that if they successfully liberated Martale, it would prevent Automaton forces from reaching Charon Prime.
As per PCGamer, Game Master Joel agreed but this decision raised a lot of eyebrows among the community. Fans wondered why Joel was diverting players’ attention from Charon Prime. It’s rare for Joel to comment on player activity and this really changes how Major Orders would function in the future as Joel will now be more directly involved. Some theories already starting circulating on social media that claim Joel is preparing Charon Prime for the arrival of Helldivers 2‘s third faction, the Illuminate by diverting the players away. Various theories also claim Joel is on the Illuminate’s side and players should brace themselves for a betrayal. As of now, there is no solid information about Illuminate’s arrival.
This Major Order was intentionally tough
Community manager, Spitz, made the announcement on behalf of Joel but he also revealed that this Major Order was a lesson that players cannot always win. As per his message on Discord (via Reddit) this Major Order was intentionally designed to be tough. In this Major Order, both factions were pushing hard and putting pressure on the players so there was no way players could win this time. Spitz made it clear that players will now have to choose which front they want to defend and they cannot hold them all.
The defense campaign on Charon Prime ended while Martale was 94% liberated. Unfortunately, the community was only 6% short of liberating it and succeeding in the Martale Gambit. It’s safe to say that in the future, the community will have to unite and decide which planets they want to focus on.
