Weeks ago, Helldivers 2 players destroyed the planet Meridia by turning it into an ominous black hole. Since then, there has been much speculation and theory about whether anything will emerge from the hole and when it will happen.

A big question in Helldivers 2 since day one has been that of crossovers with other similar franchises, and some fans have had some wild theories. The latest of which would see the black hole open and deliver a terrifying threat from one of gaming’s most iconic horror franchises.

Most fans would agree that the most likely outcome of the Meridia black hole mystery will be the introduction of the dangerous Illuminate faction, but that has not stopped theories from running wild. Talk of crossovers with other popular franchises has dominated Helldivers 2 discussions for a while. The most popular requests were for Starship Troopers Casper Van Dien to cameo and for the Space Marines from the Warhammer 40K franchise to step in and deliver the Emperor’s justice.

One fan on Reddit has proposed a different theory for what could be coming from the black hole. In a post that reads like news, ku814 describes a mysterious planet dubbed “Thermolaneta” emerging from the black hole. The image included is that of a terrifying planet-sized Brethren Moon from the Dead Space franchise.

A Brethren Moon is a planet-sized Nercromorph and one of the primary antagonists in the Dead Space games. Necromorphs are essentially zombified and mutated corpses that the player encounters in the series. If a Brethren Moon were to make its way into Super Earth space, it would undoubtedly be a major threat to managed democracy. The discussion on the thread went in an interesting direction, with some great new gameplay ideas that would certainly shake things up in the popular shooter.

A Dead Space Crossover Could Change The Game

This would be a terrific addition to the game and would really change the approach most players have to combat. The most recent update brought with it a new planetary biome and dense jungle worlds that keep players on their toes as they fight the alien threats. This crossover idea could see players fighting on the Brethren Moon with a unique horror vibe that the game has not yet fully tapped into.

So far, Helldivers 2 has nailed the action-shooter genre. With its easy-to-learn mechanics and powerful-feeling weapons, it has made itself an instant classic. If Arrowhead Game Studios took the game in a horror direction, it could see the game grow into new markets and really evolve beyond its current state. There could be all sorts of exciting new mission types and locations to explore.

There are a lot of possibilities with different crossovers for Helldivers 2, and hopefully the game can continue to grow and we can start to see some unique directions like the one pitched by Ku814.
