Helldivers 2 is a video game about intergalactic soldiers equipped with futuristic armor to take on hostile threats. It is only fitting if the players can customize the look or appearance of their character and allow them to reflect their personalities and stand out from the rest of the squad.
It can be annoying for a game to not have the option to remove pieces on a character’s outfit. Fortunately, Shift Up managed just fine by implementing a feature where Eve’s ponytail can be adjusted if it is ruining the look in Stellar Blade, which should be practiced by other developers.
Helldivers 2 Should Take Notes From Shift Up
Arrowhead Game Studios is working hard on a patch to improve the game by any means necessary. Perhaps it is not too big of an ask to include an option to personalize the appearance of a player’s character in-game, like being able to remove certain pieces like the long cape.
Capes in other media are often frowned upon, especially in superhero-related media; however, some prefer to have them on because it helps boost the confidence of the wearer. It will allow a person to feel somewhat heroic and people around them can feel safe, but the Helldivers could be more than heroes fighting for democracy and it could be a realistic hindrance in the field.
Other game developers like Shift Up realized that some players value the looks of their characters and made an effort to put in an extensive character customization effort for Eve’s wardrobe that will fit the player’s liking. Director Hyung-Tae Kim intended to have Eve sport a daring and bold character design to depict strong and capable heroines and it appealed better to the masses.
Stellar Blade One-Upped Helldivers 2 through Customization
Perhaps it is not too late for the developers to learn and apply what Shift Up did with their game and give the gaming community the same freedom to have ownership over their avatars. The cape physics are impressive but if Johan Pilestedt means to deliver a realistic and immersive experience of intergalactic warfare, capes will probably get escort these soldiers to the trenches and their demise.
The future of the live-service game may be up in the air due to the recent controversies and steady decline in quality, but the developers have a vision to deliver the best game possible and this suggestion could help.
Pilestedt is not giving up on this project and neither should fans and their hopes for better customization features. It is important to give players the freedom to pick and choose which cosmetic items to keep on their outfits and to remove what they think is not serving them well.
If these players have to fight countless Terminids and the Illuminate in a future update, they can do it in style.
