Helldivers 2 is currently the hottest video game at the moment and it is not for the reasons one might expect. Sony just announced that players on the PC platform must link an active PlayStation Network account and fans are fuming but Johan Pilestedt is trying to douse the heat.
The live service game has achieved many accolades since its launch and also its fair share of criticism. This, however, is the most controversial move that the publishers have made and not everyone is keen on linking accounts and using multiple services they did not ask for.
Helldivers 2 Fans Laid Down Some Facts for Johan Pilestedt
In light of the recent controversy, the director is doing his best to not make the situation any worse and promises the developers at Arrowhead Game Studios are aware of their valid complaints. One user on X has shared some facts regarding the perils and requirements like a valid ID and active phone number that players from the United Kingdom must offer to create a PSN account.
Wow… That seems crazy. But I assume it's a law in the UK that you need to be able to verify the age of your users?

Even Pilestedt was taken aback and recognized the potential danger that users are vulnerable to if they were to link a PlayStation Network account to their Steam accounts. There can be a serious breach of personal data that can be leaked and Pilestedt is shocked by the risks of doing so. The players are annoyed by the prerequisites which can be a major problem for personal security.
This is not Pilestedt’s first rodeo in handling public relations and this recent outburst of one of the moderators on the Discord server is a follow-up from a previous altercation that Pilestedt handled. The backlash is not unwarranted and the developers were already expecting the outrage from a mile away over a decision that they have no control over.
Johan Pilestedt Is Not a Fan of the integration for Helldivers 2
Pilestedt understands where the aggression is coming from and is upset by how the community quickly turned on the video game by giving reviews and bombing it with negative scores which can tarnish or affect its reputation in ways unimaginable. Nevertheless, Pilestedt is a man of his word and will honor his promise to create more free content for the betterment of the game.
Perhaps there is a way to resolve this issue in a more professional manner that wouldn’t lead to insults or derogatory words, whatever Sony is planning with its growing interest in the PC side of gaming is not worth the risk of sacrificing personal data. The fans are making a stand against sharing sensitive information which is a brave act but harassing the developers is not the way to go about it.
For a game that is all about freedom and democracy, Sony is making it hard for players to pledge their allegiances and join the war effort because they are now fighting a different kind of war. Johan Pilestedt is a man of the people and he knew how the community would react and is facing it head-on.
