Live-service titles such as Helldivers 2 operate on a Season or Battle Pass basis. These periodic add-ons are how the game continues the cycle of monetization while keeping the game interesting by adding new weapons, armor, and more for players to use.

The Helldivers 2 Warbonds are Battle Passes given a proprietary name. These monthly releases bring new weapons, armor, capes, and more to the game, with each Warbond carrying a specific theme. But there is one feature missing in Warbonds that other Battle Passes allow, and it could increase the number of people that buy them.

A lot of Season Passes bring not only new gear but also new missions and challenges. Completing these objectives allows the player to unlock more rewards. Usually, when all the objectives are complete, there is also a bonus prize to win for all the efforts invested in the game. But this final prize is something missing in Helldivers 2.

This hasn’t gone unnoticed by the community. A post by user 0wLzzzzz put up a ‘Change My Mind’ style post, claiming Warbonds should have a bonus item for people who unlocked every other item. While some have asked the Warbond to provide stable servers, the Helldivers community is not very demanding.

Many comments in the post have made suggestions for simple but charming cosmetic changes and additions to the Warbond. One asks for a big yellow ‘Completed’ sticker to be placed on the Warbond card, while another says it would be cool to add little medals to the in-game armor as markers of unlocking all the items.

One suggestion is to offer titles that can be used in the game relating to the name of the Warbond, such as “Cutting Edge Soldier” or “Democratic Detonator. The suggestions may be varied, but the consensus is that people want to feel a sense of closure and want some mark of completion to be reflected in the game or on the player as an award for their efforts.

Arrowhead Game Studios Prioritizes Warbonds Over Big Fixes

New ways to take down your enemies come on a monthly basis!

Not only do Warbonds bring new content for the player, but they also help the studio remonetize the game. Adding them to the game requires resources that could also be used to fix any technical issues. Big bugs require big patches, but a Discord community manager has revealed taking away resources from developing Warbonds.

This is not a decision the studio can take easily and must be discussed with the top-level management before resources can be pulled away. A big patch might take a considerable amount of time, which could throw off the monthly Warbond release schedule. Fans of the game have expressed their skepticism about the release schedule, labeling it unrealistic.

Helldivers 2 is also currently recovering from the effects of the account-linking debacle. This has impacted the concurrent player base, and while the game is now being relisted in countries, it will take time for it to reach the peaks of before. Hopefully, the new Warbonds will bring in the older players.
