After years of experience in the entertainment industry, just like most actors, even Henry Cavill wished to indulge in film production and direction. While filmmaking turned out to be a difficult task for the actor, Cavill came up with his production banner – Promethean Productions, Amber Entertainment, and GFM Films.

In 2014, Henry Cavill announced to star in the action thriller film Stratton, which was produced under his own banner. However, days ahead of the shooting, Cavill simply refused to work in the $16.4M movie alongside co-star Gemma Chan, for difference in creative outlook. Thus, Dominic Cooper took over the titular role.

Henry Cavill Was Supposed To Star In Simon West’s Stratton 

Starting his own production unit under the banner of Promethean Productions, Amber Entertainment, and GFM Films, Henry Cavill found the perfect inception for his company in 2014. Skimming through Duncan Falconer’s eight-novel series, Stratton, the Man of Steel actor found the action thriller, exclusive for his production unit to debut.

Therefore, Henry Cavill hired Simon West in 2015 to direct the film, and GFM Films to provide complete financial support. He even announced his excitement to act and produce the film. “I’ve long wanted to tell a story about the British Special Forces, and finally the opportunity has come around,” Cavill stated. 

We plan to convert the books to cinema as accurately as possible while keeping them topical. Simon West is a perfect match for this movie with his ability to marry storytelling and action, both of which are essential to do this project justice.” Henry Cavill issued a laudatory comment.

Following his excitement for the project, the director even hired actors to play their respective roles in Stratton. Evidently, the cast members include Gemma Chan, Austin Stowell, Tyler Hoechlin, and Tom Felton. However, eventually, after things were set and shooting was to begin within 5 days, Cavill simply turned down his pivotal role, alongside his co-stars.

Henry Cavill Ditched Action Thriller For Creative Differences

Irrespective of his excitement for the project that was his production unit’s debut, Henry Cavill ditched Simon West‘s action thriller abruptly. Stating his reasons to be his creative differences with the script, the actor left the project before its filming started in June 2015 in London and Rome.

Despite feeling positive about Stratton it was highly unlikely Henry Cavill would turn down his own project. However, GFM Films issued a statement revealing the reason, “It is with great regret that we announce that Henry Cavill has pulled out of ‘Stratton’ due to creative differences on the script of the movie.”

Apparently, Cavill exited the project and refused Gemma Chan and others as his co-star in Simon West’s Stratton. Thus, he was later replaced by Dominic Cooper, in the $16.4M action thriller, who ended up playing the pivotal role of John Stratton, an SBS soldier working for the Intelligence Detachment. Further, Cooper even got to meet his co-star Chan whom he started dating in 2018. 

Stratton is available for renting or purchasing on Amazon Instant Video.
