“Whether I’m ruled out of Bond because of this or not is up to Barbara Broccoli and Mr. Wilson,” he told Total Film in an interview. Cavill candidly expressed his desire to play the British spy after he lost his past attempts for the role to Craig for the 2006 film Casino Royale.

He admitted to Men’s Health in 2019 that he may not have been well prepared for the opportunity but remains undeterred, as he expressed eagerness to embody the character. In an interview with GQ, Cavill expressed his enthusiasm for the role.

When Henry was auditioning for Bond, I was at Pinewood, right? And Daniel was as well at the same time,” he said before adding, “I’d go off and meet with Daniel and [I’d] say what’s going on, and he said there’s this young guy, Henry Cavill I think they’re seeing as well.”

He further shared that although the director preferred Cavill’s audition, the James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli preferred Daniel Craig, saying that they decided that the Man of Steel star was too young. Although Cavill did not say much about James Bond, the actor noted that Daniel Craig “did an amazing job” starring in the franchise.
