Ever since Ryan Reynolds announced that he will be teaming up with Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in the announcement of Deadpool 3, the anticipation of the third film has sky-rocketed. But more importantly, fans are excited to see the two actors sharing the screen as their friendship is iconic full of friendly pranks and public banter that would surely put a smile on your face.
Even though Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds would often act like they are annoyed by each other’s presence, it is just a myth. Shawn Levy, the director of Deadpool 3 comments about their friendship, stating how they are helping each other in the film.
Shawn Levy Praises Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds’ Friendship
The friendship between Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds is not a surprise as it is one of the most precious and sacred friendships that fans of the actors hold in the highest regard. The two actors are quite close as we have often seen pulling hilarious pranks on each other, often tagging the other for a challenge.
During an exclusive interview on The Jess Cagle Show, Shawn Levy, the director of Deadpool 3 shared some light on their friendship from his observations on the set of the film and how Jackman and Reynolds always set each other to win.
“Here’s the truth: Ryan and Hugh — and the reason they’re close friends of mine is — they’re both extremely grounded generous people. And I will say, one of the great luxuries for me on Deadpool is that both of them… they love each other’s jam. So, like Hugh is such a fan of Ryan’s. And Ryan knows the opportunity that it is to have Wolverine co-star in a Deadpool movie. So, both guys are always trying to set up the other to win.”
The comment of the director has won the hearts of the fans of the actors’ fans, and this is the reason why they hold this friendship as the most sacred and real. Levy added that he will do everything in his power to make sure that the third film is a massive hit like the first two films of the franchise.
Ryan Reynolds Convinced Hugh Jackman To Return For Over a Decade
The news of the Real Steel actor returning to reprise the role of Wolverine surely makes the fans excited about the film, as it was earlier believed that his 2017 film Logan marked his retirement from the role. Regardless, Ryan Reynolds wanted to reunite the characters and wanted them to do action alongside each other on the big screen. While fans will get to see both characters in the film together, convincing Hugh Jackman was not an easy task as The Hitman’s Bodyguard actor told ET Canada via ComicBook Movie that he kept on trying for a decade to convince him.
“We’ve wanted to do this for a decade. So, to have this opportunity now is, I think weirdly, the perfect time. I mean, I never stopped. I was just pestering him like a gnat over the last many years. I believe in timing…and I think he was ready.”
Reynolds added that in his third film, Wolverine would be different from what we had seen him previously in the other films. As a result, Hugh Jackman was convinced to return.
“I think he was excited. And what we pitched him was enough of a divergence from the character that he knows and the character that he’s left behind, that it gives him something completely new to play and something that he’s really excited to do.”
The return has surely made the fans excited, as they get to see one of their favorite characters along with the old faces in the franchise, and this movie would probably explore more of MCU’s multiverse.
Deadpool 3 is set to release in theatres on 26 July 2024.
