Capcom’s recently launched title, Dragon’s Dogma 2, is gathering all kinds of controversy and acclaim. Some people are talking about its microtransactions, while others are talking about its challenging gameplay mechanics. But one thing remains as interesting as ever: this game’s incredibly well-designed gameplay mechanics. Fans who are playing Dragon’s Dogma 2 are finding it hard to put down.
And it makes sense too. Capcom might be a bit silly with its microtransactions, but it knows how to develop exciting games. An open-world game with excellent visuals thanks to that ever-popular RE engine, and finally, those mind-blowing action sequences. This game has it all, and its fans have a classic Capcom action game to thank for it.
Dragon’s Dogma 2’s action sequences come from a very special place
Fans of Capcom know that they have a whole list of excellent action games for fans to try. Over the years, they have been releasing some mind-blowing titles. Some of those games have been incredibly successful, and some have not, but there were hardly any games on that list that were forgettable.
The Devil May Cry series of games fall into this category. Games in this franchise have been varied, but never forgettable. From the first installment to Devil May Cry 5, each of them has been mind-blowing when it comes to action and combat mechanics.
But fans might not know one small thing: the fact that the best games in the Devil May Cry franchise and Dragon’s Dogma series were directed by the same person. Also, it shares a bunch of developers with Devil May Cry games too.
And no doubt it shows; fans of the franchise would know that the Devil May Cry series has no shortage of unbelievably mind-blowing action sequences. Something similar can be said about Dragon’s Dogma 2 as well.
In a recent interview series director Hideaki Itsuno explained how the team helped Dragon’s Dogma 2 better. He specifically explained how Capcom’s Devil May Cry team helped them make Dragon’s Dogma 2 an action-packed experience.
We wanted to make this an action-packed experience that takes place in an open world. It’s an action RPG, an open world game, and a game with action by Capcom, which means there’s been tons of work put into that part of it, primarily by our Devil May Cry team. What’s most notable of all is that it’s a single-player online party action game. Even though you play it on your own, you can experience the enjoyment of getting to play as a group.
He also explained that this game’s pawn system allows players to get the experience of playing with friends without having to go online. He explained how players can simply recruit the pawns and emulate the online experience of a four-player party.
It’s commendable how much work the developers have put into this game. It is also exciting to know that the developers of Dragon’s Dogma 2 are helmed by the longtime director of Devil May Cry games and the first Dragon’s Dogma. This just goes to show that the series will always be in safe hands, gameplay-wise.
All this comes down to a will to create a unique experience
In the same interview, the game director of Dragon’s Dogma 2 Hideaki Itsuno suggested that he wanted to create an RPG that gamers loved playing. He did not want to create a game that was a chore to get into.
And he succeeded too; both Dragon’s Dogma 1 and 2 are such games that do not feel too much like RPGS, but they feel like an incredible combination of RPGS and action games.
