Vegeta is one of the strongest fighters in the Dragon Ball franchise. However, from time to time it has been established in the anime that even Vegeta can get wrecked by some other characters who are way stronger than him. Being the Prince of Saiyan and getting thrown around in fights became an inside joke to the audience. It was almost as if Akita Toriyama enjoyed torturing his character. In a recent interview, he revealed that Goku isn’t the strongest in the Dragon Ball Z universe anymore.
Who is the strongest character in Dragon Ball Z?
In a recent interview for the upcoming Dragon Ball Z movie, Akira Toriyama said that Gohan is more or less the strongest fighter.
“Gohan is actually stronger than anyone…or so it’s said, but lately he hasn’t really gotten a chance to shine. In order to motivate Gohan, it takes his revered teacher Piccolo rather than his father Goku. I figured I’d try giving birth to a new superhero by putting these two in the spotlight through their intense battles with the Gamma androids.”
Being one of the most popular characters due to his kind nature, selflessness, charming personality, and strong will to protect those he loves makes him the best character to several people. There was a particular time when he was considered the mightiest character in the entire Dragon Ball Z universe. However, this ongoing trend slowly died in the community as Gohan grew weaker due to his lack of training.

Just how powerful is Gohan in the Dragon Ball Z universe?
As Gohan was growing up, he became one of the best fighters. This was the result of him being exposed to constant dangers in his younger days and facing terrible opponents. Gohan was a member of the Z Warriors, and being a skilled fighter, it was justified. He is also one of the characters with the highest potential. This was first presented to us in the Cell game saga, where Gohan’s hidden potential and temper resulted in transformation to the second level of the Super Saiyan. He was the first ever Super Saiyan to reach that form, and he proved his father right. There is no saying how strong Gohan can become since his hidden potential comes into play.
Is he stronger than Goku?
Gohan has infinite potential, and his title as the strongest warrior depends upon the extent of his training. Hypothetically speaking, if Gohan received the same amount of training as the other two Saiyans have with the deities of their universe, his power scaling would’ve been off the charts. With that being said, if Gohan chose to unlock his entire potential and train to his maximum limit, then it would be safe to speculate that he’ll indeed become way stronger than his dad, Goku.
Goku had a power level of sixteen when he was twelve years old. Meanwhile, according to Vegeta in the Saiyan Saga, Gohan was only five years old and had a power level 1000. Considering these feats, Gohan is definitely, several folds stronger than Goku.
