Cillian Murphy, the veteran actor known for working on projects like Peaky Blinders, Batman Begins, and, Oppenheimer, is all set for his Oscar nomination. Being an Irish actor, Murphy is extremely proud and yet, humbled, to receive a nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role.
Talking about the subject of fame, Murphy simply accepted that even if he did win the Oscar, he still wouldn’t be more famous than Irish football coach Roy Keane! The humbling sentences reminded people of Keanu Reeves as they root for their favorite actor to win his deserving Oscar.
Cillian Murphy Claims He Won’t Be As Famous As Roy Keane
Former footballer and coach, Roy Keane had a tremendous career that spanned 19 major trophies, 17 of which included his time at Manchester United. Being named by Pelé in the FIFA 100 list of the world’s greatest living players, Keane has had quite an impressive record and with it, the unrequited fame and love from the whole world.
Cillian Murphy, the veteran actor who beautifully portrayed the role of J. Robert Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, also boasts a massive career with countless iconic movies and roles to his name. Much like Keane, the actor has also found fame and love from all over the world.
With his recent Oscar nomination, the actor was recently interviewed by The Sun where Murphy talked about how he would still consider Roy Keane to be the most famous Irish person born in Cork (Murphy’s birthplace) even if he were to win an Oscar!
“I mean, to me, no one will be more famous than Roy Keane coming out of Cork I’m a big Roy Keane fan, so he’s always number one for me. Sorry, Graham [Norton]!”
He further continued,
“At the moment, it’s just this kind of whirlwind and it’s so humbling and overwhelming and you’re just kind of in it.”
Although the actor has received love from all over the world, Murphy recently stated that some filmmakers do not make films for money but because they enjoy making them.
Cillian Murphy Loves His Work!
In the current world, where films are often made with tight deadlines and monetary reasons, it seems that Christopher Nolan is one of the few directors who takes his sweet time. As Murphy’s interview further continued, the Peaky Blinders actor talked about how he genuinely loved acting and if people loved his movies then it’s a bonus point.
“You know, everyone says this but it’s true: no one makes films to win awards; we just make them because we enjoy making them. We make them mostly for ourselves and if audiences go for it and understand it, that’s a bonus. So, honestly, that’s all I’m thinking about at the moment is just this great celebration of the film and of the great year we’ve had for cinema.”
At the moment, Oppenheimer is predicted to win big at the Oscars but anything could change in a moment’s time. As for now, the winners of the Oscars will be declared on 10th March which is just a few hours away, and hopefully, Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. win an Oscar for their efforts.
Meanwhile, Oppenheimer is currently available to stream on Peacock Premium in the U.S.
