Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have been friends for a long time despite being often compared to one another due to their Hollywood rivalry. Both born in Massachusetts, the duo have created their own legacies in the film industry.
As hometown buddies and fellow actors, they have developed a bond like no other. Interestingly, this has been challenged due to a recent viral ad that tested Damon’s patience. The actor clearly did not want to be involved in it, but agreed to do so because of their friendship.
Matt Damon Won’t Do Any More Favors For Ben Affleck
During his appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, actor Matt Damon revealed that the line he said at the end of his Super Bowl DunKings commercial with Ben Affleck was a complete ad-lib. The line went: “Remember how I said I would do anything for you? This is anything.” Damon told the host:
“I actually said that to him when we were filming, and he just left it in.”
The actor confessed he has been good friends with Affleck for many years, but when asked if he would still do anything for him in the future, he responded:
“However much time we have on this beautiful planet, he’s got no more chip with me.”
Colbert showed a photo of them in orange, pink, and white tracksuits and asked whose idea it was, Damon answered:
“That is clearly not my idea. We had a lot of fun doing it though.”
The Super Bowl ad featured a star-studded cast including Affleck, Damon, Tom Brady, Jack Harlow, Jennifer Lopez, and Fat Joe, and it followed the Justice League star’s journey to becoming a pop star. An extended cut has also been released immediately after the ad went viral.
The behind-the-scenes of the Super Bowl Dunkin’ commercial is indeed interesting to know, and it also demonstrates the strength of Damon and Affleck’s friendship through the years, despite him saying in the ad, “Sometimes, it’s really hard to be your friend.”
Matt Damon and Ben Affleck On Working Together
Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have known each other for four decades, and they have also starred in a couple of movies together, such as Good Will Hunting and Air. Both showed support for each other’s careers to the point that they even shared a bank account to finance their journeys in Hollywood.
In an interview with The Boston Globe, the pair shared what it was like working with each other:
“We’re old enough now to look back at 25 years and go, well, who you spend your time with at work turns out to make up a very big part of the quality of your life… If you’re really lucky, you love what you do, and you love who you work with, and as they say back home, ‘Ya nevah work anothah day in ya life!’ ”
Despite the pressure from Hollywood, Damon and Affleck remained grounded, and they did not let outside forces affect their long-enduring friendship.
