It has been several months since Henry Cavill was removed from James Gunn’s DCU and David Corenswet was announced as the new Superman. Portraying such an iconic role of Superman in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel and later on in the DCEU, the actor will be forever remembered as Superman.

Although Zack Snyder loved Henry Cavill as the Man of Steel, it was the actor himself who didn’t like his Superman auditions. Stating that he “looks like sh*t” in that costume, none was more ashamed of their red underpants than Cavill in his audition.

Later on, Bryan Singer came in and made his version of the Superman film titled Superman Returns starring Brandon Routh and not Henry Cavill. In an interview with Comic Book Movie, the actor talked about how close he was to becoming Superman.

“I don’t know how close I came. I understand it was very, very close and sadly the movie was canceled because McG didn’t want to fly. He certainly had a big fear of flying at the time; I think he’s since overcome it.”

The actor further continued,

“He wanted to shoot in New York, they wanted to shoot in Australia for obvious reasons. He said, ‘I can’t do it,’ and they moved on. These things happen. It’s the nature of the business.”

Although he was very close to the role of Superman, Henry Cavill revealed that there may have been a reason why he was rejected from the iconic role. Blaming his physique for getting rejected at the auditions, Cavill talked about his movie with Bruce Willis that made him lose his body.

Talking to Entertainment Weeklythe actor stated that he had starred alongside Bruce Willis in The Cold Light of Day. For that role, the actor had to shed his muscles and abs down to a very reduced size. With his audition in a few days, Henry Cavill felt that he wasn’t meant to be Superman.

“All I could think was: ‘Oh, god. They’re going to look at me and go ‘He’s not Superman. Not a chance.’ The actor inside me was going: ‘You’re not ready! You’re not ready,’”

The actor had a famous moment on The Graham Norton Show when Cavill exclaimed “It looks like s***,” when he was shown a photo of himself wearing the Superman costume. Later on, Cavill was chosen by Zack Snyder who portrayed the role beautifully.
