While some of the fans might not know this, Joy Boy had a secret Haki attack stored within the Iron Giant, Emet, and this attack has left an impact all the way to Mary Geoise. The unique and powerful Haki attack has imbued fear in the heart of Imu, who is currently residing in Pangea castle, making it the strongest Haki attack in One Piece.
However, One Piece fans believe that there is a reason why Imu felt terror from Joy Boy’s attack. According to some fans, Imu and Joy Boy shared the deepest bond in the One Piece world, which is why Imu knows what Joy Boy’s presence felt like. This bond was the bond of “Nakama,” or crewmates.

One Piece Fans Investigate Imu’s Relationship with Joy Boy
Although the chapter is yet to be officially released, One Piece fans have started formulating theories about Joy Boy’s immensely powerful Haki ability and his connection to Imu. Many fans believe that the reason Imu was so scared of Joy Boy’s Haki presence is the fact that he might have betrayed Joy Boy in the past.

According to some fans, Imu might have been a nakama or a crewmate of Joy Boy’s crew, who was the first pirate of the One Piece world. It fits perfectly with Eiichiro Oda’s central theme of One Piece and also gives more ground to Imu and Joy Boy’s narrative.

There is a chance that at some point Imu might have deceived Joy Boy and taken his place as the leader of the world.
Thus, when he felt the presence of Joy Boy through his Haki attack, he felt so terrified that he could not even stand still and fell on his knees. Betrayals are a common motif in One Piece, and Imu’s betrayal of Joy Boy would be the perfect explanation for their animosity.
