Antony Starr’s Homelander has always been a favorite antagonist of fans despite him being an egoistical sadistic narcissist prone to the most heinous crimes one can do. Yet not only is he a fantastic villain, but he is also incredibly well-developed, equally complex and entertaining, a sociopath yet the perfect villain for a series as deranged as Eric Kripke’s The Boys.

With season four of the series releasing soon, Kripke recently shared in an exclusive interview on what new changes have been made to the series and the characters. And fans might not be ready for an even more unhinged version of Starr’s Homelander.

Eric Kripke‘s The Boys is one of the best R-rated satirical superhero TV series ever to be made. Based on the comic books of the same name, the show features an incredibly powerful team of superheroes who abuse their powers, often, at the expense of saving the world.

At the center of this superhero team is the leader, Homelander. Portrayed by Antony Starr to perfection, the character is every bit egoistical and narcissistic as he is powerful. Regarded as a satirical representation of how the world views America by many, the character is slated to get even more deranged and dangerous in the upcoming season 4 of the show.

Kripke, while talking to Entertainment Weekly recently, revealed the addition of two new superheroes to Seven— Susan Heyward’s Sister Sage and Valorie Curry’s Firecracker. Both characters are just as problematic as the rest of the members of Seven, but Sister Sage, coincidentally, also happens to be the smartest person in the world.

A bitter misanthrope, Kripke explained how her addition will impact Homelander.

We’ve always said one of Homelander’s biggest problems is he’s surrounded by idiots. Therefore, if you could actually bring in someone who’s a tactical genius, that would make Homelander much more dangerous.

Not only is Homelander the only one listening to Sister Sage, but her being a genius and part of Seven will make things further spicier and more complicated for the already diabolical world of the supes.

Eric Kripke revealed that two new supes will be making their entry to season 4 of The Boys, making things more complicated but interesting for the series. One is Sister Sage, the smartest person in the world, and the other is Firecracker, an extreme right-wing sort of character.

While talking to EW about Sister Sage, he remarked,

It’s such a funny power. A lot of superhero worlds have that character… usually really reedy white dudes, we wanted a Black woman who was raised in a low socioeconomic area, so no one f**king listens to her. It’s both commentary and satirical that you have literally the smartest person in the world that could cure all of society’s ills, but she just can’t get anyone to listen to her. So then she becomes a bitter misanthrope.

Since several characters of The Boys’ mythos are more of a satirical representation of real-life people, Firecracker instead takes inspiration from Kristi Noem.

It turns out, there’s always crazier. Firecracker represents both members of the conspiracy-minded movements and the super extreme right-wing news media. That character has some surprising backstory that connects her to some of the characters in our world that it was just interesting to bring in one of those pistol-packing ‘I shot my puppies’ type of characters.

While these supes already seem to be making things interesting, Black Noir too will return. However, an entirely new supe will be wearing the iconic Noir suit, taking the place of the dialogue-less character in the team.

The Boys Season 4 will premiere on Amazon Prime on June 13.
