Sony’s State of Play 2024 broadcast a few days ago was absolute madness. During the live broadcast, new announcements and reveals were made for more than 15 games, including Death Stranding 2 On The Beach, Stellar Blade, Until Dawn, and Silent Hill 2. Yeah, Hideo Kojima’s sequel was also among the most notable ones.

Folks were able to get a look at the release date and some fresh details for Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, thanks to a roughly 10-minute trailer. Well, we’ll probably discuss the same thing because that thing in the video may actually be purposely referencing Metal Gear Solid.

Fans claim that the ship in the Death Stranding 2: On the Beach trailer is an intentional Metal Gear Solid reference. This ship that flies from the mouth of a fetus at the beginning of the video is named DHV Magellan.

To be specific, it seems like a flying Metal Gear Rex head. That’s true; you’ll be able to see this very clearly, especially when you look at it from the side profile. This also leads some folks to go even further and describe it as a Metal Gear Rex without legs.

At least, that’s what many guys believe. Don’t you think so? Is it weird that Hideo Kojima wants to do an homage to Metal Gear Solid? Or is this a coincidence? Given the involvement of Yoji Shinkawa, who has worked closely with Kojima for years and serves as the character and mechanics designer in the new game, it seems unlikely to be a mere coincidence.

For those who don’t know what Metal Gear Rex is, it is a bipedal tank that is important to Metal Gear Solid. Jointly developed by DARPA, ArmsTech, and Livermore National Laboratories for the United States Army, this guy is a metal dinosaur and is pretty tough.

What Will Hideo Kojima’s New Toy DHV Magellan Do?

It’s been teased throughout the trailer and will probably be an important thing in the game. As can be seen from Sam’s constant interaction with it, we can guess that this ship can serve as a hub for folks and accompany them when they are outside. Although there are many theories about this massive bird flying left and right throughout the trailer, unfortunately, there is no clear information yet.

Finally, we can claim that the cast of this game, which will be released in 2025, is pretty strong. Here, Norman Reedus, Léa Seydoux, and Troy Baker will return to this exciting universe of Kojima. They will also be joined by several new names, such as Elle Fanning and Shioli Kutsuna.

What do you think about the game? Do you think Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will be able to continue the success of the original game? Or will it be remembered as a failed sequel? Let us know in the comments!
