Elden Ring has emerged to become one of the most popular games from the developers, however prior to its launch fans already knew what to expect from the game and therefore started creating their own narratives of the game with whatever knowledge they had at that time. Needless to say, Elden Ring marked a creative differentiation among all the previous games by FromSoftware.

Elden Ring is different from other FromSoftware games

When Elden Ring did eventually come out, players were in for something truly amazing. The developers had expertly crafted the open-world recreation of the renowned Soulslike formula in Elden Ring which can be seen in other FromSoftware games as well.

The game was stunning to the eyes, had hidden tales, elaborate dungeon and world designs, and, surely, tremendously difficult battles.

The game came with an extensive lore where each character had their own backstory and even after two years of its release, players are still getting to know more about the game as days go by.

Elden Ring was significantly different from other FromSoftware games. This is mostly because the game’s open-world RPG was created without useful tools like the quest markers, which was a major shift from the developers’ traditional format of game development.

The game was different from other FromSoftware games in the sense that it came with the element of adventure and the need for extensive exploration by the players.

Elden Ring was a hit because of games like Dark Souls

However, in a recent interview with IGN, Hidetaka Miyazaki was asked about any second thoughts regarding the new format of the game and whether it be a hit or a miss, he added that there was some hesitation at first, but the game was developed with keeping in mind the trust he had on the players and on his team.

He further added,

“There’s really no way of telling how or if the series would have continued the way it did without Dark Souls 2.”

For Miyazaki, the trust he was talking about having in the players, is that after these players played their games like Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls, he believed that the players would eventually be able to overcome the challenges in Elden Ring.

He further added that the trust on the player was the main reason they were able to experiment with the game and this in turn created a healthy landscape for the players to enjoy the game.

Therefore, the credit of the success for the Elden Ring game also partly has to do with games like  Dark Souls 2 which made players habituated to this kind of gameplay.
