Elden Ring’s release in 2022 has got many players excited for a sequel already that hasn’t even been announced yet. We are talking about how fans of the game are already demanding that the studio extend the game’s plot by releasing a second installment in the series.
Furthermore, while it does not seem evident for now, it is easy to observe how FromSoftware, the studio responsible for the game might have already set up the theme for Elden Ring 2. Following the theme of a civil war, it is highly likely that the sequel (if released) will feature different outer gods fighting for the control of The Lands Between.
How Mohg Has Already Cleared The Path For A Sequel To Elden Ring
Experiencing the game, the player got to witness the domination of The Greater Will as the sole outer god who has a major influence on The Lands Between. However, at the same time, we also see how it struggles to maintain a constant flow of power throughout as it struggles against other outer gods trying to take over.
One such outer god we get to witness in our playthrough is the formless mother. It is this entity that grants Mohg and his followers the ability to practice Blood Incantations. Events of the game also suggest how Mohg was trying to make Miquella an avatar of the Formless Mother, which essentially gives us an insight into how the outer god has been trying to gain influence over The Lands Between.
The last piece of the puzzle when we try to understand how a civil war might occur in the sequel of the game lies with none other than Malenia. She has been afflicted with the curse of Scarlet Rot ever since her birth, and during our fight with her, she becomes the Goddess of Scarlet Rot, proving how there is a third and final god in this equation that is actively trying to gain control and influence in Elden Ring.
How Shadow of the Erdtree DLC Might Confirm The Existence Of The Formless Mother’s Influence In Elden Ring
The coming Shadow of the Erdtree DLC for the game has been teased to revolve around the character of none other than Miquella. Knowing how he is one of the major characters in the extension and how he plays the role of our guide throughout the Land of Shadow, we might get to see and know more about the Formless Mother and her mission to have Miquella as a vessel for herself.
Another factor about the coming DLC is how we are potentially going to investigate the character of Malenia, the vessel of Scarlet Rot in great detail as she is the twin sister of Miquella. What awaits now is the imminent release of Shadow of the Erdtree on 21st June 2024 so many of these questions can finally be answered.
As revealed in the recent gameplay trailer, players would need to interact with Miquella’s withered arm that hangs out of his cocoon in the Mohgwyn Palace. This would allow the player to travel to the Land of Shadow and back to The Lands Between, acting as a gateway.
