Every single fan of FromSoftware’s Elden Ring is sitting excitedly around the world as they await the release of the much-anticipated Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. The coming extension promises to bring an addition of new enemies, weapons, items, and areas to explore to the already vast game.
As one would expect, players of the game have many questions about what we will actually get to see in the coming DLC. Answering these very questions, Hidetaka Miyazaki, the director of the game, has revealed in a recent interview via IGN something about the new map nobody would have expected before.
Director Of Elden Ring Reveals The Map Size Of The Coming Shadow of the Erdtree DLC
FromSoftware has always set itself apart from other studios by providing players value for their money. And this is what they intend to do once again with the upcoming Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. Hidetaka Miyazaki has even unveiled the following about the new Land of Shadow map-
“It’s hard to answer without giving away too much and to a high degree of accuracy, but if you think in terms of scale or size, it’s probably comparable, if not larger, than the area of Limgrave from the base game.”
Unfortunately, gaming titles in recent times have set a different definition for DLCs. This statement essentially means how downloadable content for certain games tends to just limit themselves to just extra armor or weapons that are made available to players, and only a few studios like FromSoftware actually dedicate efforts to their extensions.
To whomever who might think that limiting the map area to the likes of Limgrave would be a bad idea, they are forgetting how a player spends many of his hours in the game just exploring that particular region, especially when they start. The director of the game has also revealed another secret that will make Land of Shadow feel more extensive and better than even The Lands Between.
How Shadow of the Erdtree DLC Will Fix One Of Elden Ring’s Greatest Flaws According To Hidetaka Miyazaki
This particular title was the first time FromSoftware properly ventured into the world of Open World Video games. While they might have managed to perfect the level design on their first try, the map still felt way too overwhelming for many players, as it had many unexplored discoveries to be found and enemies waiting to be fought in every single direction of The Lands Between.
Talking about this flaw, Miyazaki disclosed how the studio aims to make the map of the coming DLC denser and richer in terms of level design. He further mentions how it will help bring these types of layouts together more seamlessly than before, making it better than the base game.
With a denser level design as well as a map area as big as Limgrave, there is no doubt that it will take the player another hundred hours or so to completely explore the DLC. This also partially justifies the $40 price tag on the DLC, as it offers more bang for the buck when compared to any other extension for video games these days.
Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is available to pre-order on Steam.
