Hidetaka Miyazaki is a man of many mysteries, and it is reflected in his games. FromSoftware games are infamous for not having a linear story for the most part; you find information through NPCs, notes, the environment, and some cutscenes, but you have to piece things together yourself.

When Elden Ring was released, it was no different. There are still many mysteries to uncover, and according to a recent interview with Hidetaka Miyazaki, one might finally be revealed in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.

Hidetaka Miyazaki Says DLC Will Reveal the Mystery Behind Two Characters

Hidetaka Miyazaki will finally end a long-standing question for players
Hidetaka Miyazaki will finally end a long-standing question for players.

The interview, conducted by Campfire and released on Zhihu, has been roughly translated from Chinese, so there will be some language barriers. Miyazaki was asked about two peculiar items from the game that look extremely similar—Miquella’s Lily and Trina’s Lily.

We know from previous interviews that Miquella will play a major part in Shadow of the Erdtree, so the interview asked whether Trina would have a significant role too, as well as the nature of her connection to Miquella.

Miyazaki began answering by acknowledging how the presence of Miquella and Trina sparked a ton of discourse after the release of the base game. He clarifies:

They can be regarded as different existences, but we don’t want to reveal the specific relationship yet, and we hope everyone can explore it on their own.

He further added:

What can be said is that Torina will indeed appear in the DLC, and the relationship between the two will be further explained.

Players have been dying to know the connection between the two but will have to wait until the Elden Ring DLC releases to know for sure. However, one fan theory might save us some time.

Reddit User Makes Compelling Theory Linking St. Trina to Miquella

Could the figures be closer than we initially thought?
Could the figures be closer than we initially thought?

The mystery behind the connection between the two figures has been ongoing for a while. Reddit user YongYoKyo, however, is certain that the two are the same, following a theme seen in the games.

They explain it in three points, the first being the mystery surrounding St. Trina’s appearance. Most pictures show St. Trina as a young girl, but some say St. Trina was a boy. Miquella, who was cursed with eternal youth like his sister Malenia, fits the bill as someone who could appear as a young boy.

Then there are St. Trina’s teachings about treatments for scarlet rot, which lines up with Miquella’s interest in medicine and trying to cure his sister’s affliction. Even the flowers that represent them are super similar.

St. Trina’s Lily, a pale purple water lily, and Miquella’s Lily, a gold water lily, look almost the same and symbolize faith in their respective churches. The post discusses a few more interesting points, specifically about the Fevor’s Cookbook which holds an interesting connection between the two.

Miyazaki did clarify that two can be “regarded as different existences,” but do you think it’s possible for this theory to still be true in a way? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
