Hidetaka Miyazaki is one of the most creative visionaries ever to grace the gaming industry with his Soulslike games. Elden Ring is the Japanese director’s latest and most successful project to date and it will receive an expansion in the form of Shadow of the Erdtree this year.
Miyazaki refused to comment on the length but recent reports indicate it is on par with the hefty campaign and large open world of the base game. The gaming community is in for a treat with FromSoftware’s biggest expansion and the promise of being a worthy follow-up.
Director Hidetaka Miyazaki Was Traumatized From Elden Ring
Miyazaki spoke about how long players would have to beat the base game and the director gave inaccurate answers which prompted the community to call him a liar. It was all fun and games, the director is more careful with his choice of words as evidenced from a recent interview.
I feel that my answer to the question of duration is not appropriate – before the release of “Elden’s Ring”, I revealed in an interview that it would take about 30 hours to complete the game, but after it was released, everyone said that I was lying. In fact, Not enough at all!
The interview was originally in Chinese and much of the translations are accurate. However, Miyazaki encourages players to not rush the game and to soak in the environment for what it is.
As developers, we will definitely continue to experience the game. We are too skilled, so the duration has no reference value. As for the order of play, everyone can play according to their preferences.
Any player can play Soulslike games at the pace of their preference, there is no need to rush through at all.
Players can experience Miyazaki’s fragmented storytelling strategy if they take the time to explore and set out by themselves.
There is no strict order. If anything, we recommend starting to experience the DLC after playing the second half of this chapter, and then returning to this chapter to complete the game. Because if you clear this chapter first, you will go directly to the second chapter, and there is no way to directly connect to the DLC.
Miyazaki concluded that players will have the freedom to take any path they see fit. FromSoftware pioneered the idea of exploration and that no path is locked and no enemy is too strong to vanquish.
Shadow of the Erdtree Means a Lot to Hidetaka Miyazaki
Game lengths may vary depending on how players play the game. It will not matter or take away any value from the experience. The developers have put in a lot of effort and rushing through the ending can undermine their work.
Miyazaki feels the pressure from the high expectations of fans and is confident that this expansion will be on par with the base game. In terms of quality and content, it is ultimately up to the players how quickly they will progress.
Elden Ring is the epitome of a balanced game and Hidetaka Miyazaki is doing his best to deliver a worthy follow-up through Shadow of the Erdtree. The whole gaming community has its eyes on FromSoftware and is eager to get its hands on the latest DLC.
