The Shadow of the Erdtree gameplay has finally dropped, and fans are eager to play this new content. From Software has confirmed a lot of new improvements in this Elden Ring DLC, including new weapons, new spells, new areas, and new and amazing bosses.
In a very long and detailed interview, the director of the game, Hidetaka Miyazaki, described a lot of new content coming with the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. Miyazaki talked about the future of From Software beyond this content, and the answer was not what players were waiting for.
Elden Ring DLC and a possible sequel beyond the Shadow of the Erdtree launch
Elden Ring has one of the more active communities in video games; the fans were all over the rumor of the release of Shadow of the Erdtree. Many rumors talked about the scale of the content, and they were apparently right. Miyazaki has confirmed that this is the largest DLC ever created by From Software. With the new gameplay revealed by Bandai Namco, numerous additions are introduced to this content. What comes after the launch of Shadow of the Erdtree?
In a very thorough and deep interview, Miyazaki talked about the future of his studio and what comes after the launch of Shadow of the Erdtree. The director was involved in almost every project at From Software except for Dark Souls 2 and Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon. In the interview, he mentions that many projects in which the studio is involved will have other directors, and he will not be controlling the project. He did unfortunately also follow up that currently there are no plans for Elden Ring 2 or further Elden Ring DLC, but that could always change.
From Software and What Lies Ahead
Miyazaki has also talked about the current state of the industry with all the layoffs, and he declared that From Software is going through a path with the different projects that they are working on.
He said that the studio is blessed with a lot of very talented developers, so he can delegate the director position to others. Miyazaki did not say that he would not direct another game, but he has no problem being more selective about the projects in which he is involved.
He didn’t talk about what game will come next or how they are working specifically, so players will have to wait. The next release is Shadow of the Erdtree, on June 21, with a price of $39.99. This Elden Ring DLC will launch on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and PC. The base game is required to play.
