Hidetaka Miyazaki Explains The Presence Of Special Babies In Bloodborne

Hidetaka Miyazaki is often expected to explain certain aspects of his game whenever he does an interview. This is exactly what happened in his interview with Futurepress via Bloodborne Wiki, where he was asked to explain the presence of a crying baby that appears in Nightmare, and if it was Mergo, to which the renowned director replied-

“I don’t know where that came from (laughs). But in the world of Bloodborne, babies that are treated as “special” in one way or the other are offered as lures to the Great Ones. The Great Ones have all lost their children because of their positions, and as a result, they’re attracted to these special babies. The babies are one way of calling them. This story setup was something I came up with pretty readily in my mind. When it comes to living creatures, the stronger or more advanced you are, the fewer offspring you produce in your life.”

Miyazaki disclosed how these babies, particularly the ones that are considered to be special are used as a way to lure the Great Ones out. He revealed how they can be called out easily as they are attracted to these babies after losing their own children, owing to their positions.

Someone well-versed in all the games that Miyazaki has produced in his career would know how this is not the only abnormal element he has ever included in his titles. There are many other factors that make up a dark fantasy game, including the unfortunate end some characters face, like Losefka in Bloodborne, whom the director was not able to save despite wanting to.

Why The Director Of Bloodborne Was Not Able To Save A Character From Their Unfortunate End

Talking about it in the same interview as mentioned before, Miyazaki was not able to save the character of Losefka in the game. He stated how he wanted to create a storyline just so she could live, but members of the studio ultimately voted against the idea of doing so, frowning upon the director’s plans.

While the director might have been luckless when it came to convincing others how Losefka should be saved, it shows how his opinion is not absolute. He has additionally revealed how he takes joy in listening to perspectives proposed by his team members, and how he takes joy in working with them.
