Over the years, Robert Pattinson has undergone a sort of image change in Hollywood. The actor first came to prominence through the Twilight saga where he played Edward Cullen. After achieving global fame, the actor decided to establish himself as a serious actor. As a result, he starred in films like The Lighthouse, The King, The High Life, The Rover, and more.

Once he successfully changed his public image from that of a sparkly vampire to a serious actor, he returned to mainstream cinema with Christopher Nolan’s Tenet and Matt Reeves’ The Batman. But throughout all of it, there was one title that Pattinson held on to- that of a lovable weirdo. But did he transform into a jerk for The King?

Was Robert Pattinson An Actual Jerk During The King?

In The King, Robert Pattinson played the son of the French king who started a war with Timothee Chalamet’s Henry V. In the film, Pattinson’s dauphin taunted Chalamet’s Henry V with insults about his manhood and more. So did the director have to instruct the Cosmopolis star in any way for behaving like a jerk on-screen? Turns out, Pattinson had it all under control. Director David Michôd said:

“Pretty much in ways that I fully 100% endorse and love, that character is a Robert Pattinson creation. The great fear always is that you end up with ‘Monty Python and the Holy Grail’ and ridiculous French accents. But at the same time, I kind of needed his character to be kind of absurd.”

The director further explained that the entire purpose of the Water for Elephants star’s character was to torment Chalamet’s king. So he wanted him to act like a ridiculous jerk. Michôd said:

“His whole purpose is to be a jerk and to just torment Timmy. So I kind of needed him to be a larger-than-life jerk. He needed to be ridiculous. He needed not to have a lot of substance underneath him. He’s just there to annoy.”

So Pattinson played the part perfectly by becoming a bully on-screen. Even though he isn’t a bully in real life, he certainly is someone who loves to shock people by saying the things one would least expect a celebrity to say.

Turns out, he was lying about the entire incident. Another weird thing he did was take out a persistent stalker on a date because he was lonely and bored. Normally, stars run away from such obsessed fans, but he ran toward her. However, at the end of the date she was bored of him because he complained about everything in his life. So she never returned. Guess, he got rid of his stalker at least.

The King is available on Amazon Prime Video.
