Hogwarts Legacy last year and fans of the Harry Potter franchise and critics alike gave the game a rousing review. A year later, the game still counts as one of the best-selling games of last year. While rumors of a sequel have been going around for a long time now, there’s one big change that’s coming to the sequel that is all set to improve the visuals and the overall experience even further.
Hogwarts Legacy already boasted of stunning graphics that matched the magic in the game and improving it further is bound to please the fans even more. For now, these are just rumors as there are no official announcements or updates about a sequel from the developers.
Unreal Engine 5 All Set to Overhaul the Graphics in Hogwarts Legacy Sequel
Hogwarts Legacy brought back Harry Potter in a way that wasn’t seen with older titles that dealt with the IP. The stunning graphics and visuals brought characters and magic to life. Fans will be even more happy to know that the sequel is all set to get a massive improvement as it will reportedly run out of Unreal Engine 5.
A recruitment post on the official WB website for the role of Senior Character Artist at Avalanche Studios Group and WB Games mentions a requirement for experience with “game engines such as Unreal 4/5.”
There are also requirements for a minimum of 5 years of experience in 3D character modeling in the gaming industry and proficiency with tools like Maya, ZBrush, and Substance Painter. The role will be based out of Salt Lake City, Utah.
The fact that Hogwarts Legacy looks stunning while using Unreal Engine 4, the graphics overhaul is bound to be a lot more noticeable and in line with most modern games.
Sequel May Still be a Couple of Years Away
While the job listing means work is underway on a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy, it does not necessarily mean the title is anywhere close to release. With Unreal Engine 5, the game is all set to release only on modern consoles along with a PC release, utilizing the engine’s latest features such as Lumen, Nanite, and Niagara, the engine’s latest VFX system.
A lot of these features were already utilized in Hogwarts Legacy as it was built using Unreal Engine 4, with the latest edition of the engine, the features are all set to improve the visuals even more. Jose Villeta, Hogwarts Legacy Director of Software Engineering had mentioned in an interview with Unreal Engine reasoning behind the use of the engine in the development of the game.
We are looking forward to Unreal Engine 5 for future projects knowing that we have a great foundation in place already.
The sequel may still arrive on PlayStation 4 along with a PlayStation 5 edition but it’s unlikely to arrive for Xbox One consoles. On the Switch front, it could still arrive on the Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Switch 2 consoles. The requirements on PC, as a result, are also set to be a lot more demanding for players to experience the game as intended.
