When it comes to any industry, it is very difficult to avoid controversy and please everyone, and the developers behind Stellar Blade and Hogwarts Legacy know this all too well. Back when Hogwarts Legacy was originally released over 2 years ago, it was met with a lot of controversy due to its connection to J.K. Rowling and the Harry Potter series, but it isn’t the only title to receive controversy over recent years.
Another title that has been controversial in the gaming industry is Stellar Blade, which has been slammed for its portrayal and sexualization of women, which has led to the title and developers receiving backlash from the gaming community. Luckily, one player is here to defend the title.
Stellar Blade Could Be Hit With the Same Backlash That Hogwarts Legacy Suffered With
Back when Hogwarts Legacy was in development, it received a lot of backlash from the gaming community as it was linked with the popular Harry Potter franchise. Sadly, the popularity of the Harry Potter franchise is what actually caused the controversy to begin with, as its connection to the author J.K. Rowling is what set off the issue.
During the game’s development, fans of the Harry Potter franchise began to discover that J.K. Rowling had some rather outdated views, which didn’t sit well with her fans. This led to the fanbase eventually boycotting the release of Hogwarts Legacy, even leading to the title being forgotten when it came to events like the Game Awards.
Now, thanks to a recent tweet on Twitter/X by the Game Awards official Twitter/X account, which is already asking what games have already impressed gamers so far this year, one Twitter/X user responded with a rather understandable comment that rings true.
One Twitter/X User Feels That No Matter How Good Stellar Blade Is, It Will Ultimately Be Forgotten Due to Its Controversy
Even though Stellar Blade hasn’t officially been released yet, it did recently release a demo that players could try out for a limited time, which shows off the early stages of the story and the fantastic combat systems that players will be able to enjoy.
Due to this demo, gamers can clearly see how amazing this upcoming title will be, but due to its recent controversy, it will likely either be boycotted or review slammed, leading to the title falling through rather than making any kind of success, and one Twitter/X user has already predicted this will happen.
And if the Demo is this good, @StellarBlade easily gets Game of the Year for me.

Of course, you'll probably ignore it, just like you did with Hogwarts Legacy. pic.twitter.com/kuunSjLM6K
The Twitter/X user in question is a gamer called DBaptistaSilva, who responded to the Game Awards tweet saying that Stellar Blade will be a major contender for game of the year, but they continued to say, “Of course, you’ll probably ignore it, just like you did with Hogwarts Legacy,” proving that controversy can affect the outcome of a title in both sales and awards as it has done in the past.
What do you think about the recent controversy with Stellar Blade? Do you think it will be a contender for game of the year, or do you think another title deserves a chance? Let us know in the comments what you think!
