The decision, which is yet to be confirmed, has caused an uproar from fans who either didn’t want their favorite animated films to be rebooted or would rather go for a sequel.

Every hit of yesteryear is being considered for a reboot, with Finding Nemo and The Incredibles regarded as particularly strong candidates for new titles.

This has come as a shock to many fans as Finding Nemo and The Incredibles were considered some of the most well-loved animated films that many viewers grew up watching. “Where else have we not gone in the ocean? The ocean’s a big place. I think there’s a lot of opportunity there. We’re kind of fishing around,” the studio boss quipped.

In an interview with Variety, Pixar’s Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter talked about the possibility of sequels to established titles such as the two films mentioned above.

We’re looking to tap these amazingly talented people I get to work with to talk about universal stories that are about life issues that we all face. Our movies on the surface are about fish, cars, and monsters, but just below that, they’re really about all of us, and the challenge of dealing with loss, becoming a parent, finding our place in the world.

He also remarked that their “philosophy from the beginning has been the same.” Even though some of their talents have moved on, the same approach and treatment of the films remain the same. “We tap people that we believe in and feel like they have talent and something to say,” he added.

It remains unknown whether Pixar will actually push through with their plans on rebooting the famed IPs or will just continue to work on a much-awaited sequel. Either way, fans aren’t so thrilled to know that the studio is running out of ideas to bring to the screen that they would resort to revisiting the old ones.

Both The Incredibles and Finding Nemo brought massive successes to the studio, and it’s not difficult to see why they want to replicate the same win. Disney CEO Bob Iger once said via TheWrap that he does not “want to apologize for making sequels.” He thinks there are reasons to make more follow-up films beyond monetary.

Sequels are pretty much fine with fans, but the rumored reboot clearly does not sit well with them. In any case, fans can revisit Finding Nemo and The Incredibles on Disney+.
