Actress Emily Blunt plays the role of Katherine “Kitty” Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan’s biographical drama Oppenheimer. Blunt recently appeared on an episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast hosted by Josh Horowitz. During the podcast, Blunt discussed several moments from her career, including her work on Oppenheimer.

Blunt revealed that she was contacted by Nolan’s team with the offer to play the role of Kitty. As a result, Blunt visited Nolan’s home, where she was given the screenplay to read. However, Blunt stated that she was already overwhelmed with visiting the Inception director’s home.

Blunt called reading Nolan’s script in his library a visceral experience before stating that she did not know what to do after finishing reading. As a result, Blunt texted Nolan’s wife, and said the following:

“I also didn’t know what to text so I went holy s**t I’m done.”

Blunt made the above admission regarding the experience of reading the script. Horowitz joked how Blunt’s text might have sent the wrong idea to Nolan’s wife before he and Blunt broke out into laughter. Keeping the jokes aside, Blunt added that she thought Nolan’s script was wonderful.

Emily Blunt Reveals How She Got Into Character For Oppenheimer

During her conversation with Horowitz, the Jungle Cruise actress also spoke about getting into the character of Katherine “Kitty” Oppenheimer. Horowitz asked Blunt how she found the intersection between herself and her character.

Blunt stated the following about finding the similarities between herself and Kitty:

“I mean my feeling is I really tried to connect with their experience on every level like you tried to connect with the whole weather system of the person.”  

Blunt further expanded on her statement by adding that she enjoys learning about the idiosyncrasies and grievances of the characters she plays. As a result, she tried to empathize with the circumstances faced by Katherine “Kitty” Oppenheimer in real life.

Thus, Blunt was able to connect with her character and deliver a strong performance. Her performance in the film earned her a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the 96th Academy Award. Oppenheimer received a total of thirteen nominations at the upcoming Oscars, including a Best Director nomination for Nolan.
